Callinshotz, here in Houston we don't have the advantage of that program. I really think they should offer it at my local campus as well. It would help many people who can only attend school at night and/or weekends.

amch, I'm not a current student & for that I apologize, but I had the same issue witty them. After receiving my 1st degree, I looked into UTA for their accelerated BSN. I was immediately overwhelmed with the calls that flowed in on a daily basis. I can tell you that my best friend graduated from UTA a few years ago & she recently was accepted into their NP program & transferred to a different University. I will tell you that I do know even if you take your pre-nursing courses with them, it isn't a guarantee that you'll be accepted. It's just a chance you must be willing to take. Have you applied to other accelerated programs in the State of TX? Corpus Christi has a very decent program from what I've been told by BSN graduates.

I have a question for you all. I have a Bachelors of Science in Respiratory Care & two associate degrees. I was only looking into 2nd degree or accelerated programs, but am I going backwards if I apply for adn programs as well? I have to pay out of pocket...no fin aid or scholarships. I'm on my own with this. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I was only studying for the HESI, but every school that I'm looking into is asking for the TEAS. The issue I'm running into is which TEAS manual I should study from. There us TEAS V & then there is TEAS VI. Any advice?

I've never had it as a prerequisite. I took A&P years ago & just took Bio for the first time this past semester. Even when I applied to U of H years ago, it wasn't a prerequisite.

Niknik718, with all due respect, I must disagree with your statement. While you're looking at it one sided, try to look at it another way. It's not that people don't care or they don't really want something, but it's the fact that many people LOST EVERYTHING in Harvey. Also, some people aren't as fortunate when it comes to finances to have everything turned in early. There are many students who have families & are just trying to make ends meet. Not all students have the luxury of receiving financial aid, live with family or friends, nor have money flowing abundantly. I don't see how anyone could be upset about this when some even lost their family members during Harvey. It's understandable that you've tried & been denied over & over, but up can still try later. These people will never be able to get their loved ones back. My friend who was trying to go back to school lost everything in Harvey & is currently homeless with 3 children. Now, maybe you're very young & maybe not, but please learn compassion if you're going to go into the Nursing field. I wish you all the best in your journey. God bless!

If you're old then I shouldn't even try. I have a degree in another healthcare field, but I'm starting in the Nursing field at 35. I'll be completely finished with the degree I want in nursing by 41.

Did anyone have to take General Biology as a prerequisite for A&P? I've never heard of this & it must be new. Any comments are appreciated.

Well, my birthday just passed on the 31st of December & I can't believe I turned 35. I'm grateful for it; however, I feel as if I haven't accomplished anything. Well, I received my Bachelors of Science in Respiratory this past May. I have been an RT for over 2 years now, but I want & need more opportunities. I have been looking into AA & PA programs, but nursing has ALWAYS been in the back of my mind. So, my goals for 2018 is: 1.) Figure out if I'm going to complete my nursing degree or PA degree 2.) Accept the fact that my oldest is graduating in the next few months 3.) Lose weight 4.) Be happy 5.) ...and just LIVE, LOVE, & LAUGH

You have a degree as well? That's my exact situation. I was told that since I have a previous degree that chances are I have to pay out of pocket if I don't receive any scholarships. HBU is very expensive, but I heard that if you make it out of their nursing program, you will not have any issues is receiving a position. I also heard their program is very rigorous & many are weeded out in the beginning. I thought about ADN, but as I mentioned, it's becoming very competitive & difficult for ADNs. They are even requiring for RTs to have their Bachelors degree. Are you here in Houston?

Julie, I tried emailing you & responding to your post, but I don't think your email is correct. Anyways, I wouldn't retake Chemistry. The reason why I say this is because when I spoke to a nursing advisor, they told me that although they accept courses that ended with a C, it is best to have B's & above in the sciences. You can retake if you want, but there's absolutely no way I would retake Chemistry. Please send me your correct email address so we can communicate.

Brandon, TAMUCC also requires Patho & Pharm. They used to accept any 4 year University credit for those courses, but now they are only allowing you to take those courses at their school. Well, both UTA & TAMUCC will only accept them if taken at their University. I honestly don't understand why.

dvah1987, I was looking into that school as well as TCU. The only thing that's stopping me from TCU is the tuition.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share why they plan on entering the Nursing field. As for myself, I have been in the healthcare field all my life. I have a host of aunties & cousins who are nurses as well. I wanted to be a Doctor as a young kid & then nursing was all I could think about. In 2002, a year after getting married, my husband & I lost our 2nd son due to respiratory failure. During this time I was introduced to the respiratory field & became a Respiratory Therapist. AWESOME! I have FINALLY decided to go into Nursing. I have been in the healthcare field all my life, starting as a CNA for over 12 years, & now I'm a Registered Respiratory Therapist. I have an Associates degree & Bachelors degree. I applied before the fall, sent in all of the paperwork, but didn't pay my fee. Chances are I'll have to take the TEAS. I'm also applying to TAMUCC, UT Health, & TX Woman's University in Houston. I will like to give you all some advice, if you're able to apply to these accelerated programs, go for it especially if you have a Bachelors degree already. It is becoming a bit harder to compete with those who have their BSN if you receive an ADN. I know that many do not have a choice in the matter, but if you can, please apply & complete the BSN. That is not true by far! Do your research! It is Regional accreditation that you seek. I learned the HARD way!!!!

NYCNative21, Congratulations on your B! I am 34 years old & my heart goes out to you. Some people conveniently forget how it was being young & having unfortunate circumstances hit you. I remember when I 1st started taking courses, by the way I consider myself to be a very smart individual, I was being hit left & right with death after death in my family. I literally broke down after my Grandmother passed away suddenly. It wasn't that I "bit off more than I could chew", I just didn't foresee that I had some unexpected, devastating life altering events in my future. I went into Respiratory Care & finished with my Associates degree. I recently finished my Bachelors this past May at the top of the University. I now have 3 degrees & I won't stop until my mother's wall is lined with degrees & I'm satisfied. Keep your head up, move forward, & it's ok to take criticism ONLY when it's constructive. Pappa22v, EMT-B, Thank you so very much for your insight. It has truly helped me in making decisions. You're absolutely right about the accessibility of the Professor & their teaching style. I really want to take certain courses the traditional way, face-to-face. I didn't know that a semester is all that stood between an accelerated & a traditional BSN. I will definitely apply to both & only to schools with a decent pass rate. Thank you for the advice & the well wishes. I wish you all the best in Nursing school & afterwards as well. :-)

ItsThatJenGirl, That's ridiculous! I honestly think that they shouldn't hold certain things against students past a certain time frame. People have personal, financial, & emotional issues that can cause such grades to come about. 20 years is a very long time & I'm sure your situation has changed since then. I think it's wrong. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance! Good luck to you all. My prayer is that we all will look back in the next few years after passing our NCLEX & smile! God bless
