  1. Don't feel bad. She just didn't want to have to go in there yet. That's not your problem! Make your rounds at 6 and evaluate patient needs. She should be rounding at 7. If the patient is needing the medication every 4 hours, then the provider needs to order it that way...not PRN. The only time I do take it every time they can have it is when they are in extreme pain and we're working to keep it from getting out of control or the patient is getting ready for a dressing change, to ambulate, etc. Stand up for yourself and go with what you know is right! You'll never make everyone happy!
  2. I completely get this Jeane. I have the same fear, but it really just makes me a more careful nurse (even if I drive myself crazy.) Take the advice of some of the other posters--when you start feeling this extreme anxiety, tell yourself the worst that could happen wouldn't kill you. You would survive.
  3. I use to have a patient exactly like this on my floor and when he was admitted, he stayed for WEEKS. We ended up making it where no one had him more than 2 shifts in a row. It is so hard. Especially with the stress of the parents watching you. Talk to your charge. See if you can start rotating the chronic kids. It'll help.
  4. Only you know what you can handle. I didn't do the accelerated route, but I know a lot of people who did and a lot of them struggled. If you pick up on things quickly, then you should be fine. If you know you're going to work, then do the part time. Nursing school is time consuming. Just don't let it drag on so long that you lose interest. Good luck!
  5. I think when you do it everyday, it becomes a job. You need to enjoy keeping your grandson instead of "working." And if you do have several years to work after he goes it school, there is that chance of having to settle for a nursing job you don't enjoy. Good luck to you and your daughter!
  6. Thanks for the reply! Keep me updated if you don't mind. Good luck to you!
  7. Has anyone applied to University of Texas El Paso's Acute Care PNP program for fall 2019? (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) had said they would be doing interviews the beginning of October. When I check my application status it still says 'under review.' Anyone else had any experience with them?
  8. I just applied for the November cohort. Those that got in, what was your GPA?
