New RN first job on Spinal Cord Injury Unit
I work on the spinal cord unit and it is very intense. Patient demand is crazy, but you can't really blame them when you are in a unit where people are either incomplete or complete paras or quads. As the previous person said bowels, turning, and cathing are a HUGE component in this unit. I work as a bowel/shower tech on the weekends and it can be very tiring (aside from my regular duties). My best advice is to protect your back as best as you can. As of now I have severe back pain around my thoracic and it travels to my neck and shoulder. It could be I did not use body mechanics correctly, but at the same time it could be over exhaustion. We have patients that can be as little as 100 pounds or over 400 pounds. Wear a back brace and always ask for help. Always make sure you check the patients butt religiously to see if there are any pressure sores that can be caught and prevented. Good luck

Patient is a sex offender with a tracker on his ankle
Similar situation at my work. We did pass it on in report, but the thing is we are a smaller hospital and it was important to know since we have a peds unit right below the unit the patient was in. We did not include it in his Electronic medical chart, but it was something we kept in mind in case the patient wandered off. We had a ankle brace on the patient also.

Grand rapids community college wait list?
Hello, I recently got put on the wait-list as of March 20th. I was told the wait right now is 2 years. Is anyone in the program or going to start? How long did you guys wait for, and is it possible to get in sooner. I keep hearing or reading of some people getting in the program in less time. p.s Even though my start date was March 20th, 2017...I did not get take my HESI until the end of May, is this weird or has anyone else had this. Should I count myself lucky lol

HESI help
Hello everyone, I am scheduled to take the Hesi and I am nervous. I have studied the math, English, vocab, and grammar. However, I feel that the book isn't enough. Do you guys recommend anything. FYI I am struggling with grammar . Specifically being able to tell if a sentence is incorrect. Help please, I feel like I am going to do fine, but I can't help but think of the what ifs. If anyone has taken it at GRCC, any helpful tips please Thank you all :)

Work as a Nurse technician or with my bachelors
Sorry, I am just very stressed on what I want to do. There's cons and pros to both and Im slightly desperate and looking for guidance.

Work as a Nurse technician or with my bachelors
I have no idea what this has to do with experience or whether I should work with my bachelors or get experience as a PCA. But since you care so much, my employer and I have already started contributing to my retirement since I started working at this job last year.

Work as a Nurse technician or with my bachelors
Okay thank you :). I have a question though, are these people Nurses who get jobs with zero experience and what positions do they work? I did an internship with at a department and the supervisor told me that if a New Nurse has zero experience with patient care, then they don't even consider them for the job. This really scares me.

Work as a Nurse technician or with my bachelors
I only owe 20k, and the amount I make as a nurse tech is roughly 28k a year. Yes it would pay off my loans, especially since I'm going to live with my parents until I graduate from nursing school. I'm only 22 so its not a big deal to them as long as I am in school or working. Just stating this in case I decide to stay as a nurse tech. I really appreciate the advice a lot.

Work as a Nurse technician or with my bachelors
I graduated this fall with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary health services with a minor in Health informatics management. I am currently applying to nursing school, so far I just need to take a test and then I will be put on the waiting list for 2 years (maybe less hopefully). I have two years to pay off my loans and relax until school starts and I am not sure what I want to do. It makes perfect sense to start working with my Bachelors as a clinical specialist or a coordinator of some sort, but at the same time I would like the clinical patient experience for nursing school. Plus it would look good on my resume that I worked in patient care in the future when I actually start applying for nursing jobs (assuming I graduate). I currently work as a nurse tech at a rehabilitation hospital. Help? What should I do
