The kiddos are done, too
Oh man, sorry. It isn't six schools. I'm technically responsible for four, but travel between two every single day, with a minimum of five trips back and forth between the two. Trips to the others as needed. The six fights were at one elementary school, with three other fights at the other school that day. It just seemed crazy for little kids! Thanks, love you guys!

What to wear to a interview
Hi Nursing friends I am hoping to change specialties after a decade in my current one. I have many years of nursing experience, though most of it is in "nontraditional" nursing fields (ambulatory psych, administration in substance abuse and corrections nursing, school nursing.) I haven't' been on interviews for over a decade. I am looking for some kind of ambulatory/clinic position. I am brushing up on my interview skills, including this: does anyone have suggestions as to what to wear to an interview? A pants suit, skirt suit, dress, slacks and top? Help! Haven't been on an interview in a long time. Any other interview pointers would also be appreciated. Thanks! Magigal

The kiddos are done, too
Hi friends! I'm a long time stalker and ogler, but a seldom poster. But.. I'm fried. The end of the year, thank goodness. I travel between two elementary schools, all day long, five trips in all. Last Friday I had a total of SIX fight assessments from one of my schools, and three from another. No serious injuries, except for one, but a lot of ELEMENTARY school kiddos pummeling one another for this reason or that. The kids are fried , too, I think. This is our last week, THANK (insert whatever deity here.) Bet wishes to y'all, Magigal

Oooh. Here's my thing. Fifth grade girl is brought to my office due to being punched repeatedly fully in the nose by a strong fifth grade boy. Bleeding profusely from the nose in to her mouth. The AP keeps me away from her since ...well..i dunno. Soon the AP comes and tells me she needs to pinch her nose to keep it from bleeding since that's what you do for nose bleeds. I look at her like she has three heads, tell her in my best slow country voice, "Nooo, thaaat's not the right thing to do here..., she needs ice, and we need to assess for damage, just apply ice, now, and we can go from there." (didn't go there at that time bout the nose pinch thing.) AP in shrill panic stricken voice: "Aren't we supposed to pinch noses when there's a nose bleed?" Me: (In slow country voice) Weelll nooo. Buut certainly not now. Three's trauma there, we can't tell what, you don't want to squeeze on that. Puut ice on it and we'll get the riiight help She neeeeeds to be seeen by a doctor. Iiiif the mom's comin to pick her up, I recommend she take her to be evaluated for possible fracture or need for other treatment. Oootherwise, she needs to stay here until mom comes to monitor for complications...Incidentally, when mom came, report was given, recommendations were given, and everything else was referred to admin. Is this dumb AP, or exhausting end of year complaint? (PS like all ofyou, I have soooo many more crazy stories from the last few days....)

Another fav of mine: Max Ehrmann's "Desiderata" Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, Copyright 1952.

I need a revolving door...
Hey kchennz Long time oogler, appreciator, never a poster. But for now, after 10 years, this is probably my last year of school nursing. Leaving for reasons of anonymity I can't say on social media. It's bittersweet. School nursing is a mixed bag of fun, great schedules, stress, boredom, the bizarre, the unexpected, and ER skills, counseling skills, case management skill. all the while the "public" thinks you're not a "real nurse." But I respect and applaud all school nurses: those that are good at it are good at a unique specialty that is hard to appreciate unless you've seen it. Very best of luck to you, friend. That's what cool about nursing, and one of the things I love most about nursing, and something I've seen from years of just reading allnurses. Nursing gives smart and talented and dedicated nurses the chance to grow, either to become further specialists in their specialty of choice, or to move ahead and grow into another specialty, using their past experiences as a jumping of point to row further in another specialty. Anyone who survives nursing school has proven his/herself as being smart, flexible, and caring./ You have a fantastic chance to succeed in any new area, or any other career that you choose, and the knowledge and skills you've acquired, including those as a school nurse, will hopefully and rightfully help you to feel proud and confident as you move on. Best of luck, best wishes, and God speed (however you define it) Magigal
