  1. Yay!! So happy they decided to let you participate in the lottery ? Thanks for the heads up & I hope you get in too!!
  2. Tysm for the info. I hope you make it in this year :)
  3. This is my very first time applying to any program. I don't want to sound like a baby but I'm going to be super bummed if I don't get in. But you have a better chance of getting in since you've applied before because you'll get 2 extra entries into the application selection. I really hope you get in, you definitely deserve to for having to wait so long :)
  4. Nothing here either but the app packet specifically says May so I think we're gonna have to suffer in pain til May í ½í¸” Good luck to you guys. Hoping we all make the cut
  5. Congratulations!! No acceptance email for me unfortunately ☹️
  6. Thanks for an update. I don't feel so bad now that I know I wasn't the only one who wasn't issued a number. I'm just hoping it doesn't affect my application somehow. I know what you mean about their selection process. It really is awful that we have to pay for transcripts that just get thrown away and not even looked at after they've selected their application pool. It would be nice if they kept things on file and just throw them out the next year if you don't reapply. Hopefully none of us have to worry about that cuz we all get in. (Fingers crossed)
  7. Hi All!! I've also applied to Sierra, it's my first time applying. I turned in my app in person on April 4th but I didn't sign in like another person in the thread mentioned, which has me worried now. The lady that took my app just date stamped the envelope my documents were in. There were a ton of those post office bins sitting around everywhere with manilla envelopes inside of them. I asked if they were all nursing applications and the lady said, "yes there's so many applications, I have nightmares about them!" There were so many apps I sort of felt discouraged but I know everyone has an equal chance of getting in at Sierra as long as you meet their requirements so I'm trying to find hope in that. Good luck to all of you. I hope we can all say we got in come May!!
  8. @Ms Salvatore best wishes! I hope you get into one of them. Will you be commuting or moving to Merced if you get in?
  9. I hope so too! I'll update here if I hear something. Please do the same.
  10. Hi @AngelaFIT So excited I finally got a respond from someone! Congrats on being able to apply, if you're anything like me it's been a long road. This is my first time applying, how about you? I'm going to be going crazy until we hear something in May. Do you live in Merced? I'm not from the area so If I'm accepted I will have to relocate. If you're in the Merced area and know of any cheap rentals that are in a good area please let me know. Hope to hear back from you. Oh and good luck, I hope we both get in!!
  11. @futurenurseinfo Yes! Thanks for clarifying lol I forgot to mention that part about always being able to redeclare nursing as your major once accepted;)
  12. From Cali here!! My recommendation is this....First research schools! We have impacted programs throughout cali, so getting in is tough! I recommend first making a list of all the schools you can apply to. There will be some that you unfortunately will not stand a chance getting into. I don't mean to sound discouraging, I know it is disheartening, trust me there's some I can't get into as well & it kills me! So after you have your list go to each schools BSN/ADN nursing website and find the selection process for each school. As others have stated each school is different, so requirement vary from school to school. Many in Cali use what's called the multi criterion screening. That's just a fancy name for a point system. So you will need to go to each website and see what they offer points for. Add up your points and see if your totals are even enough to apply (a lot of schools have a minimum cut off at a certain number of points). Also as you read the application process you will notice that some schools only accept your fist grade of pre-reqs, some allow repeats but dock you points for repeats, so you have to do the math and see if it's worth retaking. From my experience, in Cali, the nursing programs tend to offer the most points for good GPA or pre-reqs & co-reqs, and TEAS scores. DO NOT take the TEAS without studying, because again some schools only take the first teas score! So as i've stated you really need to do the awful reading of each website to see what the minimum qualifications are, if you meet them, and if it would really benefit you to retake some classes. BEST OF LUCK, hope this wasn't confusing
  13. If you feel deeply that this is your calling DON'T ever give up!! You can do it! It has been an incredibly long road for me. I live in California where our nursing programs are impacted and very competitive selection wise. I've had to put myself through college because my Mom was a single mother of 6 and unable to help me much, but helped in every way she could. I've had to stop college a few times due to financial and personal reasons but always went back because I knew nursing was in my heart. I've finally completed my pre-reqs and I've been able to apply but I'm terrified now. I'm scared of how discouraged I'm going to be if I don't get into a program, I'm intimidated by all of my fellow nurses who I may fall far behind, I'm mostly scared about flunking out of nursing school. I've never been so scared in my life, but I saw this quote that resonated with me. It goes like this... "If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough!" So I keep trying to tell myself that it's a good thing that I'm scared, I've worked so incredibly hard to get here and deserve every bit of the success coming my way, there's always going to be nay sayers but they aren't doing what I'm doing, and I need to keep pushing forward because I CAN DO THIS! And so can you! Don't listen to the negativity if you know you are destined for something. I truly believe some of us have callings in life
  14. Hi, I'm not sure where SBU is, but in California if you are pre-nursing then the California State Universities term you what is called "expressed interest in nursing". They came up with this term because in CA our nursing programs are impacted (meaning they get more applicants than they can accept to the nursing program). So you stay a "pre-nursing" major until you are actually accepted into the nursing program. Here is the problem in Cali: so if you're a transfer student or undergrad with 60 or more units then a registration hold is usually put on your record as a safety measure to prevent you from taking more courses than you actually need (when I asked about this hold I was told it's because too many students were taking units that they don't need, wasting their time and money, and expressing their frustration to academic advisors, therefore this practice of placing a registration hold on students was done as a protective measure in a sense). So then you may be asking well what happens if you're pre-nursing and can't get into the program and now you have a Registration hold? I was told you're advised to research other majors and declare another major. Super annoying, and heartbreaking for those of us who know we want to be nurses ...I know, but the reality in California is we have a huge population and even those of us with near perfect grades will not make it into a nursing program so we must find other options. Anyone in a similar situation I encourage you to apply to every nursing program that you can, consider moving, leaving the state, or get a BSN in a similar career field (which I'm doing), and then I plan to apply to an entry level masters program in Nursing (entry requires a BSN). Sorry I know this was long but i wanted to be thorough and cover all possibilities with your question. I'm thinking maybe your counselor forgot to explain something because directing you in another direction other than your interest in nursing sounds crazy, but if you're in california or a city where nursing is an impacted major then what I have explained is likely the reason. Don't give up on nursing if you know it's what you want to do, Best wishes.
