I'm not sure what your ED commonly uses for maintenance sedation post-intubation...but would Fentanyl and Versed drips not have been an option? My experience is with hypertensive and sedated pts the combination of fentanyl and versed achieves a good level of sedation while also lowering BP...plus they are compatible drips, so you can use 1 iv site and leave other iv sites open for other medications.

I have a Cardiology III and I love it. The Cardiology III is affordable, yet a very good quality.

In regular shoes, I'm a 10. Danskos, I have one pair that is a 41 and one pair that is a 42. Both fit fine, but it took a lot longer break in period with the 41s. I suggest not ordering online, but going to a store and trying them on so you can actually walk around in them.

At our hospital we do 2 "transitions" of New Grads...one group starts in June and the other in January. We do accept new grads to the ED straight out of school; however, there is an extensive orientation that is completed. They do several weeks as a group on the floor with one of the managers, then they are individually placed with a preceptor for a minimum of 4 months - longer if needed. In addition to the aforementioned unit training, they become certified in PALS,ACLS,NCI and participate in triage classes specifically for the ED. One thing I love about the program for our new grads, and I think is very beneficial - emergency pharmacology class. Yes, I know pharmacology is done in nursing school but pharmacology specific to the ED, and the top 200 most commonly used drugs in the ED make me feel safer and more confident with our new grads.

I had been a nurse for approximately 3 years when I took the CEN. However, I was a paramedic for 8 years also. As someone previously mentioned, there is some overlapping in the content. I used the ENA study materials, and the online test prep from BCEN; I found both to be particularly helpful. Take it when the time feels right for you, and when you feel adequately prepared.
