How old were you
I was 19 years old when I started my freshman year of college. I was not sure on what to study. I thought about business or office work, then nursing struck a chord with me and I have enjoyed it every since. I have worked in long-term care, schools, research, and assisted living. I am a nurse, but in many different specialties. I am thankful for my career and look forward to the future.

40 yr old with GED. Is a MSN even possible?
You can get your MSN even if you have your GED. You will have to get your BSN which now is a lot easier to do; in fact you can even get some of it online. Then, you can get your MSN probably some or mostly online and then go to some classes in person. You might have to do research on what you want to do in nursing or your masters in nursing. You can do this. The goal is to work hard and achieve your goals which you are doing right now by going back to school and wanting to do something that is meaningful and great. I wish you the best and please let us know how you are doing.

NCLEX exam without going to nursing school?
I think that you need to go to a state approved nursing school in order to become eligible. It is very important to check your states nurse practice act and see what they require. Not all states have the same requirements. I would also check with your school in order to see what they recommend. I wish you the best and please keep us posted.

"You're too smart to be a nurse. Be a doctor"
People are meant to be doctors and people are meant to be nurses; therefore I chose to be a nurse for these reasons: 1. I like the profession of nursing. 2. I like what nursing does for the patient. 3. I like how the patient responds to nursing care.

minimum staffing and lunch breaks - enemies??
I work in the third floor memory care unit at the assisted living facility and they are short staffed sometimes and sometimes cannot leave the nursing floor. I have the advantage in that I can work the shift that I need to work and take a lunch break as well which is so nice because I really need a break from the nursing floor. I cherish my breaks. I am so thankful for my breaks and for my job.

Tell me why you regret about becoming a Nurse
The one thing that I regret about being a nurse is the fact that I have to work part of my weekend and every weekend. I can never take the weekend off. I also am more tired on the weekends because I am not resting like I should do to working every Saturday; so I guess whenever I can take a nap that will be my resting time.

Night Shifters - Am I being too sensitive?
A lot of people are happy to work the night shift because of the following things: 1. They get to catch up on paper work. 2. They get to do some research regarding their patients prognosis. 3. They get to watch the patients and see how they are doing. Overall, the night shift is a great place to work.

Night Shifters - Am I being too sensitive?
No, you are not being too sensitive. The night shift is hard work. I know that people only work the night shift because they like doing it. I really can't work the night shift due to medication that I take that makes me sleepy; however I have a friend who only works the night shift and she tells me that she really enjoys working the night shift because it helps her be with her kids and she enjoys having the whole day to herself.

Nurse Practitioner vs Physician Assistant
I like both nurse practitioners and physician assistants. They are both really good. It is really hard to pick one from the other because I have had really good things from both practitioners. I have enjoyed being treated by both and they are both very knowledgeable. I think that they both are very important in the medical team of professionals.

What type of soap do you use?
My friend made me some soap that was homemade. The soap was in the shape of a rectangle and the color of it was a pink color. It also smelled really nice. I used it on my hands and I absolutely loved it. I thought that it was the very best. I always love homemade soap that is made with love.
