professors?

What do you call your instructors? !st quarter it was the first names and this quarter the want to be call professor (least name). I am a bit confused by this, I always thought a professor was someone with a higher degree, such as a Phd.

We're a distance learning program, so our instructor designations were kind of weird. We would call the lecturers at the main campus (across the state - lectures were broadcast in real time, so we saw and could talk to them through cameras and microphone, and vice versa) by their professional title and last name. Our local clinical instructors were just their first name, though. We're a small, laid-back group here :p

Here, you only a Dr. and professor if you have a doctorate. If you have anything less, you are an instructor.
