Probally A Silly Question

Yes, I've heard that there are no silly questions in life. However, I have actually witnessed situations that render this little proverb untrue. So here I go.... asking the question..... I'm from the U.S. and over here the nurses uniform consists of scrub shirts and pants. Well, I was wondering, in the UK do nurses also wear pants or do they wear the traditional dresses and stockings? Do you have an option of choosing which you perfer to wear? Thanks everybody!! Oh, and if my question is silly, just laugh! Humor does the body good!! :rotfl:

Most hosptials these days have a choice of tunic/trousers or dresses, some may even give you a selection of both. Uniforms are provided by the hospital and you have no choice but to wear what they provide. :)

I prefer tunic and trousers, much easier to work in, more comfortable and if you help a patient a bit more freedom with movement. In the UK we had a no lifting policy and you must use aids when moving patients but having tunic and trouses does make it easier.

I have tunic and trousers - navy trousers and white!!!! tunic with epileps (is that spelt right?) White can end up as off-white but in the Royal Gwent (hospital about 20 miles from me) they have a checked dress which I think looks really smart - very nursey - i know we are trying to get away from the stereotyping but it does look smart whereas we look ...... whats the word I'm looking for.......I don't know ........ bland...scruffy.....

What I think we should wear are theatre blues which are cleaned by the hospital and not worn to and from the hospital whcih is what happens at the moment.

I wear tunic & trousers (I dont have the legs for a dress)...but work out in the community ... do you suggest I don't wear my uniform outside of the hospital :chuckle LOL. I have been challenged whilst 'at work' by public spirited individuals who tell me I should not be wearing my uniform outside of the hospital, (particularly after recent MRSA stories in the press). I have to explain that I am at work.......

Im a student nurse in North-West England. When our uniforms were being given to use, we were not given the option of a dress? :uhoh21:

So during those lurrrvly hot sunny days, it's still tunic and trousers.

There are delightful 'elephant grey' as a friend once described it.

White could be hazardous to learners? Or is that harsh?!!?
