PRN tech help!!!!

Hey guys so I got the position at the hospital it's taken me over a year to get.

Even thought I'm crazy happy, it actually wasn't the position I applied for. I will be in the same unit...but it wont be FT. I have always worked FT and I NEED FT (for the hours, not really the benefits) I explained this to the manager and she said that I would recieve the FT hours every week only I wouldn't get the insurance.

Now, she explained to me also that there is someone there (FT tech) that will not be there much longer (Idk the situation...) and she's FT, so they said if she leaves they will slide me into that position. If not, there are 2 more FT positions opening in July.

Idk what to think, I accepted...but being PRN bugs me so much because I'm NOT guaranteed the FT hours. Idk why this bugs me so much.

    I am not sure how we can help. All I can say is a job is a job. You may even get the hours you need. You have waited a year for the position finally got it just not the hours you wanted. It sounds like if you put your time in, you will even get the hours you want. Win WIN

    I have many friends that work PRN, and they rarely have a problem getting their hours. This is because at our hospital, if you are PRN, you can pick up shifts on any floor. Is it like that where you are going to be working?

    Plus with PRN you get the freedom to make your own schedule, and if you don't want to work one day, you simply don't have to!

    I worked Per Diem for over 2.5 years and I was able to work steadily until I finally got a regular benefitted position. I even was able to work on a non-nursing bachelor's degree while waiting to get into nursing school. I think it all depends on how busy your department is and if you are able to float to other floors if needed or do things like sitting for patients. Good luck to you!
