PRN positions

Go for it - if they want you, they'll pursue it; if not, they won't. Just be aware that you'll have to list your current employer and the new place may contact them. That may not make your current employer too happy as you will seem to be falling into that 'one year and go' group to them.

Have you asked for more time from your current place??? At least that way, you'll have it on record that you're just looking for more time (put it in writing & keep your copy). That way, they might feel better about it when contacted.

Think about it - have more people been hired so the need for staff is decreased? Or is your place soooo anti-overtime that they're cutting back?

Most PRN positions require at least a year or two of experience, some require two or more. It depends on the hospital. I say go for it, you have nothing to lose!

I did the same thing and got some great float pool experience out of it. Before applying at another hospital though, is it possible for you to sign up for float pool or cross-training at your own facility? Staying in your own facility will make it easier - you already know the protocols and have a log in - and I'd be surprised if there isn't another NM who wouldn't give you a shift each week just to fill in their schedule, overtime or not. I cross trained to cardiac and neuro before taking another PD job elsewhere after finishing my second year; both were a big help moving into a specialty when I was ready, also.

If you feel comfortable and can accommodate another PD job, (keep in mind weekend/holiday commitment that may be required), go for it! Good luck.
