Prerequisites or TEAS first?

I've worked in an office environment for a long time and am strongly considering going back to school! Since it's been a while since I graduated from college, I have several prerequisites that need to be completed.

I'm looking for guidance on timing.

Do most people complete their prerequisites first, then apply to nursing school? Or, do most people apply to nursing school, then complete their prerequisites?

I'm excited and nervous about the possibilities and am hoping that all the awesome veteran nurses out there can give me some guidance! Thanks, everyone!

Most schools won't even consider you if you don't have the majority, if not all of the science, prereqs completed. I didn't have to take the TEAS for my specific ABSN program, but from what I heard it sounds like the prereqs would be beneficial to take before it.

Good luck!

I took my TEAS this past February and I'm very glad I was finishing my last semester of prerequisites when I took it. My bio A/P classes helped me a lot in the science portion. I did buy the TEAS book (and two online practice tests from ATI), which were very helpful in preparing me for he TEAS.

You don't want to take the teas test blindly and take it to see how it goes. sometimes programs only consider your first teas score, so you should take it seriously from the first attempt. I've heard from time and time again that you should take prereqs, complete them , study for the teas and take the actual test. How long you study for the test is subjective and up to you, you take it when you feel prepared and comfortable.
