preparing for the nclex exam

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hey everyone!

I am planning on using an online service to help study for the big nclex test! It seems like the Kaplan program is pretty good. but i also heard it is very time consuming. My friend told me to try this new site she used which is nclex-exam.com because it has this thing that you get to talk to real nurse tutors with any questions.

I guess my question is which service should i use? and have you ever heard of the second one i mentioned. For the price im thinking about trying out that second site since it worked for my friend Hilarie, but im pretty sure the kaplan program is a good choice as well.

thanks!!

Hi pitt,

You absolutely do NOT need Kaplan to pass NCLEX! Their strategies can be found in many review books (i.e. Davis Q&A 2010). I used that, PDA (Linda LaCharity), and the infection control mnemonic and passed on the 3rd try @ 75. If you have the money, go for it...but don't fret if you pass it up. All the best!

BTW, I used Kaplan the first 2 times and failed (1st @ 265 & 2nd @ 135). For me (and this is just me) the scores I got (mostly mid 50s to low 70s) gave me a false sense of security. I didn't slack off studying, but perhaps I didn't give NCLEX the respect it deserves. I would HIGHLY suggest just focusing on answering questions...don't get caught up in practice test scores. Only YOU will know when you're ready.

Okay thank you soo much for your help! I think i will probably try that book you said and i will also use that other site http://www.nclex-exam.com because it has a personal nurse tutor. Its also fairly cheap.

thanks again for telling me about that book!!

I would not invest money in these until trying to get it done on my own. Most people pass with no outside help.

I would try to stick with books you have but also I found Vipramed.com and it is well priced and a lot like the nclex. You can take a timed test and you can also take test with answers after each question, you can chose what section you want to be tested from and number of questions. Hope this helps, good luck!
