Preparing for Fall '12 nursing programs!

Published

What are you doing now that you have been accepted to a nursing program? We are all entitled to celebrate, relax, and enjoy the summer before classes begin once again, but also wondering if anyone will try to get a head start on any nursing textbooks or review some past classes. What should we be doing now with the time we have this summer?

Good question! I will be starting my Nursing program this Fall, I have a bunh of mixed emotions as to what to do to prepare, I will definitely get a head start on my readings.

I start the BSN program in the fall as well. To prepare myself, I just finished a book that went over dosage calculations, I'm now reading a book called Fundamentals of Nursing Made Incredibly Easy, and I also got their Health Assessment guide too. I also went over my medical terminology from when I took it back in 2009 because the 1st week of the BSN program we will be given a medical terminology test to gauge where we are. I can't believe we have a test the 1st week lol, but I'm ready. I don't have my book lists for my classes yet, but I bought these books from Barnes and Nobles since my 1st semester nursing classes will consist of fundamentals and health assessment. I've been reading over them but not trying to overload myself because my professors will give us the assignments that we'll need to go over. I just wanted to get a head start on everything so I won't be completely lost on the 1st day of class.

take a class on dosage calculations and brush up on A&P.

I wish I could relax, but am finishing up my last prereq right now - Microbiology. My final is on July 16th and then I hope I'll actually get to have some down time before starting my program in September. However, I do think I want to brush up on some medical terminology and A&P just to make sure I'm ready. But maybe we'll never really be "ready" and just need to dive into it! :)

I'm feeling overwhelemd with starting in the fall. I think because I am taking Microbiology right now, and it ends July 31, and we go away for a week vacation, then the kids start school, and then I do. So not much of relaxation or down time. Plus I have the orientations to go to, and get all the PX and vaccs done, and get my CPR recertified. Fun summer:) It's worth it!

Im currently taking a&p 2 an then I start my rn program in the fall. Anatomy 2 is a pain but its so much more interesting than anatomy1. Im excited and very nervous about the program in the fall. Ill be travelling out of state for it as well so that adds to my mixed feelings as well haha anyways take care all and best of luck!

I started BSN program this fall. I am just so anxious I just can't help myself! I know I should be enjoying the free time but I have been brushing up on my A&P and patho. It just seems like if I'm not doing something the anticipation of starting class is going to drive me crazy lol.

I start a BSN program in the Fall and I am currently gathering all my immunization records. I pretty much have all of them right now since I work in a hospital but I my immunization card for some reason doesn't have my last Hep B date so now I have to check my high school transcripts. I have ordered my books and uniform, completed my background check and drug screen, have been working a lot this summer to pay for school but most importantly, finding time to do things I enjoy before I am busy with school. Once I get my books in then I will start doing my reading for pathophysiology.

I have started the Dosage and calculations pretesting exams and reading up on all the required chapters. I can't wait until August 22

I have two classes still, so I'm working on those. Feel bad saying it.. but I barely have energy for these classes, so I doubt I will start to look over anything else. This semester ends Aug 8. New semester starts Aug 22. So yeah, I won't be doing much but relaxing and conducting internet research about what to expect first semester HAHA.;)
