Pregnancy during RN program

I had a baby halfway through nursing school. In fact, I found out I was expecting shortly after I started. I did my first clinical rotation with the first group of our cohort so I wouldn't be in clinicals while majorly extremely pregnant. I was...6 months I think? Everything worked out fine. It helped my husband was able to switch shifts at work so while I was back in school, he was home with the baby (and worked nights).

Congratulations....if possible try to finish the first semester and it seems as if you would be due after the first semester...the only thing is that pregnancies can be unpredictable so just take it one step at a time...if anything you can always go back to school when the baby is a little older...if being a nurse is your goal then you'll definitely will be a nurse...Congrats again

It can be hard to say but if necessary, you could probably withdrawal due to medical condition for a semester. We had one girl give birth and was back at clinicals the next day. We had one who had an emergency c-section and was close to have a hyst in her fourth semester. She ended up completing two classes at the same time to graduate on time.

After she was born I took two weeks off (one week of that was spring break, so I missed a week of class. I studied the book and notes on my own because I was missing one exam, and had another scheduled shortly upon my return. So I took both at once.

I breastfed so took two pump breaks at clinicals. I coordinated with my instructor since I couldn't pass meds without her present, and I didn't want my turn to come while I was off the floor.

I read my school notes aloud to her instead of Goodnight Moon for a while.

How do you even know if a person is CMV+? It's not commonly drawn.

I just went through this! I had failed my Med-Surg class last Fall and while waiting for class to start back up this Fall, I found out I was pregnant. The problem was my school doesn't have a clear plan on how to handle maternity leave and class/clinicals. I ended up just having her in August and I missed two exams and three clinicals. They suggested that I withdraw from the course because it would be too much work to make up. I really didn't want to because now my graduation date is pushed back once again and I don't know if they are going make me reapply! But I'm just going to enjoy this time with my kids and if I have to go another program later on then I will!

I am currently pregnant in my sophomore year (hubby had a vasectomy after baby #3 was almost a year, Doctor tested him at two months, gave us the all clear, and I got pregnant the next month). I am due one month before graduation. I was freaking out quite a bit, as my school only allows us to miss one clinical (and you have to make it up) and two class days per semester. My previous pregnancies have been difficult in that I am exhausted and have had morning sickness the entire pregnancy. I did speak to my instructors, and they said they would work with me in my last semester (have me do my heavy clinicals early in the semester, possibly do some make ups after graduation), so that was a little comforting. I think it really depends on you, your current family situation, and your school. If I don't push through this pregnancy and keep going to school, then I will be pushed back 2 years, and I refuse to let that be an option for me! My family has made too many sacrifices for me to give up now! So far, the pregnancy hasn't been too horrible, and I haven't missed any days this semester, so I am hopeful for the future. As long as you don't have a high risk pregnancy, I think you will be okay!
