Preceptor gift?

Well, I had a really good orientation. It didn't seem like it at first (lol) but I learned a lot, and have been on my own a little while now. I haven't worked with my preceptor since I got off orientation, and I want to get her a gift to thank her for her awesome precepting skills.

What would be a good gift? Has anyone else bought their preceptor a gift when they were done?

I got my preceptor this little nurse doll that wound up and played a song from the San Fransisco Music Box Company. It was way cute and I wanted to keep it for myself. :) A girl that started with me got the Angel of Healing--those little wooden statuettes in white dresses with smooth faces and wire wings. Cheesy, but our preceptors seemed to appreciate them. If little doodads aren't her thing, chocolate probably is.

At our hospital, you can buy gift cards for the cafeteria, so that's what I did. Starbuck's gift card would be good, too, if preceptor drinks coffee.

"Chicken Soup for the Nurse's Soul". A card with a personal message, saying how they made a differrence

I got my mentor a t-shirt that says "Not everyone can be as good and fabulous as i am." (i had to get this custom made)

I'll admit to going a little further than most, but then, so did this preceptor. Made all the difference in my survival! So I bought a gift certificate to a swanky restaurant she'd admired (but never treated herself to) for complete package dinner for her and her husband :)

Wow, you precepted nurses RAWK! in even offering such kudos for being precepted well! They really must've put you in a straight line to success on the floor fresh out from under their wings! I had an awesome preceptor in a hospital setting once. Wish I'd thought to get her a gift. I was so nervous about being new, that I didn't even think about it! I'd recommend either Dr. Scholl's inserts for shoes or maybe a foot massager, the electric kind you put water in...they are the bomb for reviving our poor little puppies after running at work all day and/or night! Don't remember the cost. About the same as most of the above described gifts listed...
