PN Student without direction..

Published

i dont know how to start this -but ill basically get down to the nitty gritty. im currently enrolled in an lpn program (doing very well ) last week my teachers decided to give out an exam (as a refesher) because half of the students were divided into 2 rotations -OB and PEDS (i am in the PEDs Group). In the beginning of this last semester they gave us a PEDs math/drug calculations exam to determine wether we were ready to take on PEDs (i passed by the way). (the OB group didn't really have to -so they said, but they were going to take a refresher once they switched to PEDs) the problem started last week when it was time to switch and they decided to give out the test, but this time they revamped the whole idea of a drugs calulation test and did a over all pharmacology exam instead (amid mid-terms even!) -now heres the problem. pharmacology was taken in our first semester -it was a 27 chapter book and was given about less that 24 hours to study the material. now, our instructors always base everything by nclex so the passing grade for this test had to be and 85 or higher. ...well, apparently, i did the unthinkable and over thought questions and failed.

consequence: i dont attend my last clinical -and i dont graduate (which is aproximatly ..5 weeks from now)

right now, i feel lost. and i dont know what to do. i keep thinking in my head -it's just 5 weeks till graduation/pinning, why now?

since my ultimainum, ive been depressed. was what happened to me fair?:o

wow does this bring back memories!! Sounds a lot like something that happened to me in nursing school. my question tho... how come they were going to offer a refresher for the calculations but not the pharm? and why did you have to pass the pharm test in order to do your final clinical? that would almost make the pharm test an exit exam and you should have had way more time to study for that. what my class and i would do in a situation like yours is... have a group of students who feel the same as you on this go to your instructor or director and explain to him/her why you feel this is unfair explain that you had very little notice of this test and are also in the middle of studing for your exams... sometimes (not always tho) your insturctor will be sympathetic and make some changes. especially if they didn't realize how much they were actually loading on you all at once. don't give up. go up the chain of command if you feel that this was really unfair.

I can understand...things like this seem to happen in most nursing programs, and this example reminds me of why I hated nursing school with an intense passion. I think you should voice your feelings in a very diplomatic way. Did other students fail as well? If so, maybe go as a group. I wish you the best.

You apparently don't think it was fair. I would talk to the instructor. I had to retake 3 semester of ADN program because of a fever of 103 and turning two pages at once like it was one page and missing ten questions. I couldn't retake it either,,,and I begged on bended knee.:scrying: Maybe you would have better luck at begging skills than me.
