Please...

I worked for 15 years as an LPN in a pediatricians office. I gave injections, telephone triage and filing. I worked about 8 months in an allergist office doing allergy testing and telephone triage. It seems that it is really getting limited as far as LPN's scope though. In the pediatrician's office where I take my kids, only RN's can do telephone and immunizations. Good luck. Honestly if I had it to do over I think I would have done the RN from the get go. Just because you are so limited.

Any advice, no matter how little, is greatly appreciated. I'm very stressed over it. I would love to become an LPN, I just prefer to not work in a long-term care facility or hospital. I would really enjoy working in a physician's office or specialty clinic. Are job prospects favorable for clinics/offices?

I think that it depends on what state you are in, and the circumstances. I live in New York and just received my license in June. Because I worked in a hospital that sponsored my education to become a practical nurse, they had to hire me, especially since they paid my tuition as well as granted me a full time leave with pay. We have a contract where I owe them three years of employment. Not a bad deal, I say. However, I did hear that many of the private hospitals here in NY no longer utilize LPNs the way that they used to.:welcome:

It's funny that you mentioned in depends on what state...

I live in PA, and in a small city called Hermitage. I looked in my telephone book and counted 760 doctors, and quite a few specialty clinics; but as far as nursing homes I only counted 53. So I'm just wondering....why would it be so dificult to find a job at a physician's office when there's such an over abundance of them where I live? I'm serious - there is 10 pages of doctor's office in my phone book and only one page of nursing homes. Maybe there's hope for me?

As far as the scope of practice.... I don't mind being in charge of just one or two things, as long as I do them well.

Hi, I just got my LPN (still in RN school though) and I got two jobs. One is working with children in a rehab facillity. They are weaned off vents and rehabed to either go home or go to medical group homes. The other one is a rehab facility attached to the hospital I worked at as an aide. Patients transition there before going home (ex: they need PT or they still need meds and/or IVs). I was also offered a job on my med/surg floor at my hospital but didn't feel ready for that. Wanted to get more experience before working in the ever changing hospital environment (especially our floor).

So see there are lots of options. I really did not want to work in a LTC facility. I want to train for my RN through my LPN and gain as much experience that I can apply towards those job fields.
