please share your thoughts...

hi everybody

hope everyone is doing well

I was hoping I could hear your thoughts on the following...

I'm 19 going on 20 :balloons: pursuing nursing. I recently decided to withdraw from the college i was attending for several reasons and Last year I applied to several schools in the CSU system and I've been accepted to a few as a transfer pre-nursing major. Now I've heard how difficult it is to get accepted into a nursing program but usually I hear this from people who have completed their nursing pre-requisites at community colleges and then try applying to 2 year nursing programs where there is no guarantee you will get in ... the waiting lists, lottery and all that jazz. So it seems to me that it is definitely more difficult to transfer to a school when you've done your prerequisites elsewhere.

My plan is to choose a college and finish my last 2 prerequisites there. My thoughts are that once I'm in the school it will be much easier getting into their program because I will be their priority unlike hundreds who apply directly to the nursing program. I wanted to share this and hopefully hear some of your thoughts.

ooh and by the way i was hoping to get in touch with anyone attending either CSU Long beach or San Diego...to help me in my decision...thanks have a great evening!

I applied for CSULB! I just found out that I was accepted into the school, so I'll be transfering there in the fall. I also applied to the nursing program, but I won't find out about that until the end of April. I actually had to withdraw from CSUF for various reasons. Then I started all of my prerequisties for nursing at a community college, but discovered that the ADN program had a two-year waiting list. So, I'm graduating with an A.A. degree and will be transfering to CSULB. The great thing about CSULB is that there is no waiting list, but it's way more competitive. All of my prerequisites transfer and as far as I know, CSULB students do not have more priority over students that are transfering. Admission is based on GPA in science prerequisites and non-science prerequisites, as well as your score on the TEAS test. Well, sorry if wasn't much help, but CSULB is a great school! I haven't heard anything about San Diego, other than it's a notorious party school!

please tell me where could i found the latest research about nursing on the web. thank you

Hey! Just so you know, all nursing school programs are challenging to get into. I am just saying that so you dont get majorly dissapointed if you dont get into the 1st semester you applied for. A state university near me didnt take anyone this last semester with a GPA under 3.7-no matter where they came from, where they completed their pre reqs, etc. You need to ask the school you are going to how competitive admission is and what they are looking for...I do know what you are saying tho about being in the "system" and that being easier.

Good luck, keep those grades up and I hope you get in sooner rather than later! (OH, and apply early!)

have you checked into CSUSB? they are in the process of expanding the program over the next few years (more student seats).

it is out in the boondocks, but i like the school and the program.

Cal State San Marcos has a new nursing program that is way easier to get into than SDSU. Don't know where your located but it's a thought. I've been checking out all the nursing schools on the college websites. Its a good way to go because they tell you what the criteria for admissions is. Do they go by a point system and whatnot.
