Please Respond!!

Does anyone here work for Gentiva Home Health? Know much about the home health work in the area? Also, anyone work in psych? I did that for 8 years and enjoyed it, so it is also an option. Salary scales seem to be a bit lower than I expected. Are there many open positions? I am looking forward to the move to Louisville and plan to make a few short trips to talk to employers, etc. Just trying to get as much info as I can beforehand. thanks to everyone

I would say not because I am in eastern ky and every nursing jobs pay is about the same as Lous. some places not very good pay at all.....Hope you best of luck:)

I've been an LPN for four years and I need some advice. Im in the eastern KY area and I am almost terrified to get a job. I recently quit a Nursing home job. The place was just terrible, the staff was the main problem and the nurse manager on my floor and the DON were just plain disrespectful. I was really loving my job until this Ex military RN tried to make everyones life a living #*!!. But any way since I quit nurses that have been there for years have quit. The place is staffed mainly by agency nurses simply because they cant keep any one. I cant understand why the two trouble makers that was everyones problem are still there. I heard that one of them even had to go to classes to learn how to get along with other employees. I just feel short changed and for months I have put the blame on myself but I know that I put 100% into my work and I wittnessed some crap out of the two trouble makers Is there any justice and is it going to be like this everywhere that I go. Have any of you had this problem. All I know is that it seems like the harder I bust my @$$ the harder everything goes against me. I love nursing but I cant stand a @hole for a nurse manager or DON... it looks like if they really wanted people to stay they would treat them better. I was there eight months and didnt even get a raise, anyway I wish I had my job back and the trouble makers out of there. My problem is that I didnt get any evidence of this, I was just to recessive and tried to stay out of it, but then it got to where I couldnt stand it any longer and I made sure that I was covered and left. Everyone there knows what went on and its just unjustified.

Gail, you may want to consider going agency- you don't have to deal with the drama nearly as much and the pay is better. You can also get a feel for the other facilities in your area, and may find one where you want permanent employment.

I have considered going agency but I really dont know where to go to apply do you have any suggestions. I know that all the agency nurses that Ive worked with in the past were good nurses and very good nurses and when they got tired of the crap they wouldnt come back until things cooled down. I think maybe I will, thanks for the advice.

Maybe Im crazy and I certainly dont want to offend any one, but I myself personal opinion would not go to louisville, unless you have lived there or close to it for a while. I am in the rural area of KY and I just cant help but wonder if the crime rate is really bad and thinking of the danger of just working in that area. I dont know theres something about that place and Ive been there before, it just screams dangerto me, and I dont know why.

I would start with the agency that you are most familiar with. Who do the agency nurses that you worked with in the past work for? You could probably just do a walk-in and go to their office and apply. Ask them where they send their nurses, how many hours you can get, etc. Agency pays more, too.

Well, darn. I was hoping for a weekend option position somewhere. Where I live now has a 30% diff for weo, and 10% for an isolated shift.

I have checked at a couple of the hospitals and Our Lady of Peace and Jewish both offer a work on weekends program. I think Norton's does also, I have not talked to them yet........they are on the list for the next time I visit Louisville as is Baptist.

I suspect Louisville is like any place. There is crime and there are some areas that you don't want to be walking around in at night, but a little common sense goes a long way. I currently live in a very small town in rural KY, but being in such a rural area........we have meth labs blowing up fairly frequently........so all in the perspective. I enjoy Louisville, it has a lot to offer, including some great schools and that is important to me. My high schooler wants to go to a magnet school.......and my adult kids live there, so it is the obvious choice for me. Hopefully I will be there by June 1........soon as the school year ends here.

hooray! i will be starting school in ky in august, thus the quest for weo. right now i work at the most geographically dangerous hospital in my state, and i agree about just being careful. a college friend worked cardiac at baptist in l'ville and loved it. (i haven't looked for jobs myself.) i love appalachia and i'm sure i will like l'ville, too.

Wow!!! I work in the greater Cincinnati area. 2 hrs from Louisville. The hospital I work at pays $18.75/hr with a $4.00 shift diff after 7pm. You can contract for weekend only and start at $26 with $4 shift diff. I know St. Elizabeth pays better, but generally only hires RN staff. I believe they start at $19.50 or higher. Cincinnati is 10 min from the hospital I work at and pays better than the rest. I'm surprised at the shift diff and weekends.

I worked for a small home health agency in Louisville for over 2 years. I was all over the city including the worst areas. I never had trouble, you pay attention to where you park, what is around you. You leave certain areas before late aftenoon. Other drivers are the real danger. Most agencies have you in a certain area, makes travel time shorter. Good Luck
