so number 6 and 7 are correct? and I don't get why you would divide 5mg/2mg/ml. Is it because you are technically cancelling out the mg, leaving ml?

Oh i understand now. For number 2 this is how I would solve it.

10mg/kg/day , since its divided every 12 hours I would do 10/12= .83333 (round to .83)

and i would multiply that by his weight which is 165*.83=136.95 mgs per dose?

AND convert the 175mcg/minute to mg ? to mcg/hour and then cross multiply?

Ratio:proportion method is easiest for these, IMO.

For 9 convert your weight to kg first, figure out how many mg based on that, then divide by three. Those are the three equally divided doses.

Look at the way you have your proportions set up, your units need to match.

1000 mg/20 mL = 300 mg/ X mL, you had it backwards.

In this problem, I would simply figure out that 1000 mg/20 mL = 50 mg/mL and then it's simple division. You need 300 mg and in every mL there are 50 mg, so how many mL do you need to make 300?

For the digoxin problem, you know your patient weighs 20 kg. You know the minimum dose is 20 mcg/kg/day... so what is the minimum daily dose for your patient? Once you figure that out, you can figure out the dose in mL.

For numbers 9 and 10:

9)Patient is to receive dilantin 20mg/lg/day in three equally divided doses over the next 24 hrs. This is to be followed by a maintenance dose of 5mg/kg/day in three equally dived doses every 8 hours. The patient wiegs 165 pounds. How many mg of the dilantin should the patient recieve per dose on day one?

Step 1: convert lbs to kg.

Step 2: Determine the daily dose. 20 mg/kg/day x pt's weight in kg gives you how many mg per day?

Step 3: You know that the patient needs these doses divided q 8hr, so how many doses does the patient get in a day? It's simple division at this point.

You have already figured out the patient's weight in kg in the previous problem, so now you do the exact same thing you did in steps 2 and 3. The patient's maintenance dose is 5 mg/kg/day divided q 8hr. So what is his daily dose? Once you know that, how much does he receive with each dose?
