Please help

I am starting my pre-reqs this summer at TVCC to become an RN. Afterwards I will start pre-reqs to get my BSN. I eventually want to be a CRNA if thats possible but I have so many questions about the classes i have to take like Statistics, College Algebra, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and Psychology. Everyone has told me those will be my hardest which I expected hard classes but are they too hard to pass? Or is it just a thing where if you study you'll be ok? I know this is probably a stupid question but i worry about not doing good in any of my classes seeing that I'm a straight A student in high school and don't want to fail a class that my parents are paying for me to take. Any information would be helpful and I'd be glad to hear what you have to say.

Thank you,

Whitb :)

You will be okay. Those classes are just like classes in high school. If you study you will be okay. I've managed to pass those classes with mostly A's and couple B's. It also depends on what kind of teacher you have too. I went to a community college first so class sizes were smaller. My A&P teacher gave us direct notes to study. Statistics and College Algebra are just math. Micro. we had overheads and wrote down our own notes. Psychology was easy for me because my teacher made it mostly about vocabulary and knowing who proposed what. Depends on how you study, and the type of teacher you have thats what I believe.

worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere.

i had to take every one of those classes (statistics, college algebra, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, and psychology) before getting into nursing classes. you left out chemistry. there is no way anyone can tell you if any one of these classes is going to be hard for you or if there is a likelihood that you could fail one of them. you stand as much chance of getting a good answer from a psychic with a crystal ball.

nurses are science based professionals. if you want to be a nurse you need to start thinking like a scientist. we make our own luck in the world. study hard and well. studying is a skill. you get better at it with experience. by the time you get as old as me you get pretty good at it. you are just fearful of the unknown right now. we are all afraid of what we do not know. i was. what you have to do is overcome your fear just enough to take those first steps into the classrooms and apply yourself. you'll never know if you will pass or fail if you don't try. there is a big difference between a student who flunks because they were out partying all the time and someone who flunks because the course material was too far above their head for them to understand it. which one do you think parents are going to give the hard time to?

troubles are a lot like people - they grow bigger if you nurse them.

i put off going to nursing school for a number of years because of my fear of chemistry. it was such a stupid reason. when i finally took the basic course, i applied myself to the class so well i ended up getting an a and wondering why i had been so dumb to wait so long to take it. it turned out that i understood chemistry really well and that it was my own silly fears that had been holding me back for those years. those are the games our minds play on us. did i learn my lesson from that. no. there were other opportunities i missed out on over the years because of my silly fears. and that is why i specifically answered your post. i'm trying to prevent you from experiencing some of that pain and remorse. you don't know you are a failure until you sign up for a class, get in the classroom and start taking tests. you might be surprised to find that you not a failure, but still an a student.

he who fears something gives it power over him.

- study strategies. many of the websites i posted there are from college counselors who advise and teach students how to study.

good luck in the pursuit of your dream.
