Please help: New grad having difficulty finding a job.

Hello Everyone,

Excellent site. Reading the threads definitely helped me when I was studying for the nclex. I passed in March with 75 questions!

Well, here is my story: I graduated in December '07 and I am having a hard time finding a job. I have had two job interviews, but no luck. It seems as if the recruiters are looking for someone with experience. I live in Connecticut and will relocate to any state just to start my nursing career. I have even applied for license endorsement to New York just to find a job and have even went to a couple of job fairs in New York. I have been a CNA for 10 years, worked in group homes, nursing homes, hospitals, and done lots of work in home care. I have lots of experience in healthcare except as a registered nurse. I also have a previous bachelor's degree in biology.

What am I doing wrong here? This has been my dream for the past 11 years. I had my resume updated again listing my clinical experience but no luck. Please help and give me any advise. My interest is in psych nursing but I am willing to take any offer at this point.

Any input is highly appreciated...:banghead:

omg i thought it was only me lol. yea they're looking for experience the advice that has been giving to me is keep send out your resume and annoy them untill they take you.

Have you tried an agency?

Or go in person with your resume to the facilities that are of interest to you.

Thanks for replying. No, you are not the only one NMDGURL. I have seen some new grads expressing this issue here. I will keep on sending my resumes and will go to the facilities in person. I will love to work with an agency, if they are willing to take new grad because most of them don't.

OK....you said any state.....Nebraska Medical Center's web site saids they welcome new grads....and even have a hire on bonus for new grads.

www.nebraskamed.com I just start nursing school in a few weeks....so save a job for me. If your serious remember the cost of living in NE is less so the salary is less.

I certainly will remember you. I just checked the site. Their bonuses are very good. I will apply and see what happens. I am flexible and can easily relocate. Good luck with nursing school!

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time finding employment. They hired a bunch of new GN's at my hospital. I know Yale just had an open house looking for both new and experienced nurses.

Best of luck to you in your search!
