Hi, I currently graduate with a Biology degree. It has been the toughest thing I have ever done, I cry, suffer, and I stop several semesters cause I wanted to withdraw and not continue with it, but I was too close to do that. I have never been the smartest person, but I have a lot of goals. I had an IQ examination and just reveal what I already knew which I wasnt that smart, my IQ was 86.
Now, I am thinking of embarking myself into this beautiful career, but my dilemma is if I will be able to handle it. My university is offering an accelerate BSN degree which is only 3 more semesters since I already have my bachelor in Biology. But the way, I graduate with a 2.4 GPA but I was able to boost my GPA to 2.7 taking easy business classes.
Please give me an advice to see if I should really give it a shot, or just give up and move on with my life.
Thanks!!

Nursing school is very stressful. They separate the goats from the sheep. The accelerated programs are fast and furious. The program I was in had medical math and if you made less than an A you retook the test and were kicked out if you didnt make an A on the second attempt.
Please think long and hard before you go into this area of study because I promise you if you think school is stressful wait until you are taking care of people.
Have you though about teaching school??

i had a previous degree when i began nursing school. it was nowhere near as difficult as nursing school was. given your past difficulties with the stress associated with your prior degree, i think you are very wise to question whether or not nursing school is for you. there's no sense in putting yourself under so much stress that you have a nervous breakdown or just find yourself unable to enjoy your life/career/studies. i also wonder if your gpa will disqualify you for acceptance into the nursing program as most are very very comptetitive. best to check that out first.
good luck whatever you decide. perhaps you could use your biology degree for a research job or something along those lines which is not quite so stressful as nursing?

There are a few things I want to state.
1. Don't let the idea that because of your IQ that you can't or that you're less. You graduated with a degree in BIOLOGY! You should recognize your strengths and realize that you are a success.
2. After recognizing your strengths, realize the problem with an unemotional view. Yes, nursing school is hard. Yes, the stress alone may make you lose your will to live and finally, Yes an accelerated program is the bootcamp equivalent of Nursing school.
3. You stopped for a bit in the pursuit of your biology degree. BUT YOU FINISHED IT. You can do it if you want to. You were strong then, you are strong now.
Think about an associate degree program. It is still stressful, but it gives you more time and leeway than an accelerated program. If your goal is a bachelor's degree, there are bridge programs that can get you there but after the harder part is over.
You can do anything in life, all you need is the means and the know-how.

Think about why you want to consider nursing school. Had you ever considered being a nurse before this point? If you are thinking nursing would be any easier or less stressful, you are wrong. Being a nurse is extremely mentally, emotionally and physically demanding. If this is something you've had on your heart, I'd encourage you to go for it. But becoming a nurse should not be a whim decision.
You have a degree that you've earned already. I would encourage you to explore your career options. Work for a year or two and then see how you feel. If you still have the desire to become a nurse, go for it. With dedication, you can get there. But frankly it's not a career I would want anyone to consider in a last minute panic.
Good luck!

Consider ultrasound tech, believe its 1 yr training at a local community tech school and the pay is comparable to nursing, but is more hands on and would imagine less stressful and better working conditions!

Maybe you should take a break for awhile until you are mentally and emotionally ready. I could never bring myself to tell someone that they aren't capable of doing something they really want. For instance, one of my best friends started out at the same university as I and struggled badly, her GPA was so low that she had to transfer to a community college. She eventually went to another Univ and graduated with a 2.7. Over a year later she couldn't find a job and decided to pursue nursing, she worried that she wouldn't get in because of her previous GPA. Well, to end this short story (lol). She got accepted, graduated with over a 3.0 this past June, took the nursing exam in July, and was blessed with a job 2 weeks later. I'm thankful no one ever told her she couldn't handle it. Pray, if it's in God's will, it will be done

I think if nursing is what you really want to do, you will find a way to make it through. Only you can know if an accelerated program is a good option for you.
Also, ignore the IQ test. They are not extremely reliable, especially as a predictor for future success. You have already proven that by obtaining a degree in a very difficult major!
