Excelsior is a good start, no classes---you have to be able to do well with "self guided learning" I have just started.

Excelsior is about the ONLY choice for LPN to RN. You MUST be self motivated and good at independent learning. I would highly recommend taking a CPNE prep or review course offered by people like Lynn Fredrickson or Tina on the East coast/ Tina on the West Coast as you near that final exam step. These people are dedicated to helping you succeed and that CPNE is one of the most stressful tests you will ever take! It is important to be as prepared as you can be.
Excelsior is an all or none degree. Either you pass all of it and graduate with your Associates in Science or Arts in Nursing or you start over at another college because no one else will accept Excelsiors work. Be sure to check with your individual State Board of nursing to be sure they will allow Excelsior grads to sit for boards (some won't).
I don't mean to make this sound impossible. Excelsior has a great program. I graduated in 12 short months from LPN to RN without problems and only a little frustration. I passed my CPNE on the first try and then got the job I really wanted. It can be done, just do your research so you can avoid any major dissapointments!
Best of Luck to you!!!

I too am just getting started at EC...I simply do not have the time to attend traditional college. Having a fulltime job as an LPN and 4 children, EC was the best option for me. I can do it around my schedule and at my own pace, plus I don't have to work for free again in hours and hours of clinicals:yeah: Good luck with whatever you decide:)

If you are willing to move anywhere in the U.S., you have several options, since there are schools that will admit an LPN with no prerequisite classes. These LPN-to-RN bridge programs typically last about 12 months.

Where are you located?
Finding a truly excellent LPN-to-RN bridge program that only conducts classes on the weekends is going to be a tall order to fill, since the vast majority of good quality bridge programs operate on a Monday through Friday schedule.

There is an LPN to RN weekend program in VA. I do not remember the name of the school. Maybe look at the Board of Nursing website and call schools. You can also try a google search for weekend programs. Good luck!
