I would check with the local colleges and see which ones have nursing schools. Then you could go by there and get a list of prerequisites needed for the nursing programs. You can find out how many prerequisites need to be completed before you send in an application for nursing school as well. Some schools like for you to have a CNA license. You'll have to see what the schools you are interested in require. Also, some nursing school have entrance tests that you have to take. Good luck!

Hi, weesie....I would strongly suggest going to this site's Student Forum, specifically the Pre-Nursing Student discussion board. There, you will find all kinds of information (of course, general) to give you an idea. Then naturally you'd need to check with your local school to see what your specific requirements would be.
FYI, if you put your personal email in posts, the moderators will yank them, so skip that step :)

Talk to a counselor of the school to which you are applying. Also be sure to contact the nursing school department because not every school is the same. Admission requirements and assigned points toward admissions vary. Good luck.

As someone w/ a GED, I understand how you feel about not knowing what to do next. First, go to the community colleges in your area and check out their nursing degrees. Go specifically to the NURSING departmnet and ask for an appointment with the nursing school advisor. She will get you started in teh right direction.
Now, since you are 45 and I assume havent been in school for a while, I would HIGHLY suggest taking a study skills class. You will need it for school.
I got my GED at age of 17, got into college and completed 3 yrs on a Psyche degree before getting married/having kids. I went back at 29 to start pre-reqs for nursing school, and I have 3 semesters left until I am a graduate nurse.
I did it and so can you! GL!

Hi there!! I am 30 years old and have 6 more classes to take!! It took me a long time to just suck it up and sign up.
I will tell you, once you start, you can't stop!! That's how I am anyway!! Look online (if your college has a website) and see if they have any information on there. If not, obtain the number for the Nursing department and ask if you can speak with someone in charge of the Nursing Program. Also, you could also go sit down with a counselor - they will tell you exactly what you need to do. Our school actually has an informational session that you have to attend.
Good luck to you!
