Hi all, I'm thinking about travelling soon, in fact I know I will. But I am also driving a car with 400,000+ miles and thus I am car shopping. So, this is the question ----- for all you travellers out there if I get a car like a honda or acura, will I be able to travel? carry my belongings? I want a car for better gas and price, but is it really possible to travel by car? Have you travelled by car and made out ok? please lend me your opinions, thank you!!! I've been struggling with this for a while and have finally decided I should seek some expert advice!

I have a Toyota Highlander and it's packed when I take off. You could try to get corporate housing and just take your jammies and toothbrush.
But remember that is more money out of the contract and less in your pay.
And if you get into a situation without corporate pay a honda might be too small.
JMHO.
I've gone both ways. Can't say either is better or worse for me.

I'm not a traveler, but my 2005 Subaru is my pride and joy - love it and it holds a lot. Subaru Outback.

what kind of car do you have that made it to 400k?
As far as the traveling with the car depends how far you go. If I moved to another coast for an assignment then I wouldn't buy until I got there. if it's within the same coast then heck I'd drive there. Then again I'm a minimalist and don't need much stuff. Rent a uhaul if you're just wondering about your stuff. Good luck!

So you would buy a car in California and pay their prices. Where would you register it? Because if you register it in Cali then you are a Cali resident and no longer a traveler and can't avail yourself of the great tax deductions.
And you don't need to rent a u-haul.

It sounds like you have your heart set in L.A., but let me offer you another CA alternative. There are assignments available in the Napa Valley and Sonoma areas just north of San Francisco. I completed an assignment in Napa, CA, then went south of San Francisco to Santa Cruz. Beach, Beach, Beach!!! And rolling hills/mtns. No traffic. Napa Valley is just starting spring season, the vineyards are blooming! I'm from Kansas. Will be returning back to Calif as soon as I have minor surgery. Hosp staff couldn't be nicer. Napa is approx 45 min north of San Fran and Santa Cruz is about 45 min south. Close enough for day trips to Fisherman's Wharf, but away from the hustle and bustle of commuter living. Good Luck to you!
