Please advise me what to do in general.

Hi all,

I am a returning student and want to complete my education in RN even though I am not into the program yet. I am currently thinking of where to start again and feel lost what to do since I was not in school for a while. Back in fall 2018, I finished prerequisite courses and general core requirements for nursing program in hunter college. After that, I applied their nursing program, but I did not get in because I was supposed to be a matriculated student while I am applying their program. Since then, I stopped going to school because of financial problem and worked full time as medical assistant to support my family until now. Currently everything becomes stable, and I can finally focus on finishing what I left but feel lost where to start. Shall I apply every nursing programs in NYC or shall I just go back to hunter college and focus on their requirements since every colleges have different requirements and different entrance exams?

Thank you so much and I am very grateful for any advices.

I wouldn't put all my hopes into one program anyway? Even if you meet the requirements at Hunter there's no guarantee you'll get in. I'd look into the requirements for other programs and apply to multiple places. If you stick with one school and still don't make the cut you're back where you started.

Look at other programs you'd be interested in and find out their requirements.

I second that suggestion. I too went to Hunter college to fulfill my last few prereq's. When it was time to apply I had a 3.9 GPA and a 141 on the NLN and I didn't get into the program. I was heart broken. I guess my NLN score wasn't high enough. So...I transferred over to Lehman and...a year later....I was accepted into Lehman. So...yes...even if you think you've got fantastic grades ( I thought I did) don't put all your hopes In Hunter...or any school for that matter. It's sooooo competitive!

Definitely keep your mind open to the possibility of applying to multiple nursing programs (Lehman, St. Francis, etc...). I also did not get into the hunter program on my first application because i took the NLN exam without being fully prepared but i toughed it out and was accepted on my second try. If you are set on hunter and happen to be waiting then i suggest you take the Anatomy 1&2 and microbiology courses if you get a chance to (i know they are offered only during certain semesters). I have met plenty of straight A students whose grades have suffered because of the difficulty of balancing the bio lectures and labs on top of the nursing classes and labs. Good luck!!
