Hello all!
I'm a student nurse and my pinning ceremony is scheduled for December. Myself and another classmate have been asked to sing together as part of the ceremony. I really want to sing something meaningful that everyone will enjoy. So far, the only song we've discussed is "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban, which I think is a beautiful song.
I'd just like to have some others songs in my head as well just in case this one doesn't work, but I'm kind of stuck in trying to find something that conveys the spirit and has good vocals.
Any help would be appreciated...thanks!

We opened a new unit in January of this year and our theme has been "The Climb". I think nursing school is like that... you finally reach your goal, but there is so much more out there when you are finished with school. You will always remember the hard work and great friends you make in nursing school. You will always "climb" as a nurse. Congrats on your your graduation!!!

I agree with the climb. I also LOVE the song you raise me up! Either would be great. A couple of other thoughts...
"we can move the world" by Joe Crone
" I believe I can Fly" R kelly
" A moment like this" (this was our song during a video of our clinicals, classroom experiences, and pictures were playing behind all of us on stage)
Hope these help! Congrats!

At my pinning many years ago three of us sang a song about how we'll always be friends. It was very moving.

Perhaps "I Want a New Drug" by Huey Lewis and the News, or "I Want to be Sedated" by the Ramones........
Seriously, congratulations on your upcoming pinning and duet. I don't know if your ceremony will have any religious overtones or not (my nursing school was in upper East Tennessee; everything had religious overtones), but another possible song might be "On Eagles' Wings" which I'm sure you could google.
Good luck as you finish nursing school and start your career!

I recommend "Journey" by Lea Salonga.
It's not that popular but is very very meaningful. Part of it goes like this:
I have been to sorrow
I have been to bliss
Where Ill be tomorrow
I can only guess
Through the darkest desert
Through the deepest snow
Forward, always forward I go
What a journey it has been
And the end is not in sight
But the stars are out tonight
And they're bound to guide my way
When they're shining on my life
I can see your better day
I wont let the darkness in
You are just a click away

We had "Go Light Your World" by Chris Rice as one of the songs at my pinning. We passed a Nightengale lamp around as it was played. It was originally written about spreading the gospel, but it speaks very well about the loftier ideals of nursing. Although it's done as a solo, the music is not difficult and could be easily adapted to be sung as a duet.
There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes his home
So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Frustrated brother, see how he's tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister, she's been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
Cause we are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let's raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor
Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hepeless, confused and torn
congratulations on your upcoming graduation! Good luck with your performance.
