Pima CC 2020

Hello! I’ve been checking this site for a while hoping someone would start a thread.. and thought why don’t I?

Is anyone else applying to Pima CC nursing program with 2/1 deadline? I’m also applying to ASU CEP program! Just waiting for my degree to post and I’ll be all set to apply! ?

Featured Replies

Yes, I did. Though other people have told me that they take GPA into account aswell.

Hmm, I’m not sure? I haven’t heard that but I hope not! Hopefully it’s just the 4 classes on the point system doc they have ?

Ugh, its so stressfull wondering and waiting. I wish I had gotten an advisor to look over all of my paperwork before I turned it in to make sure that everything was correct.

Lottery system?? How does that all work out? I’m glad Pima is competitive then ?

Also, I didn’t know that Maricopa still did the waitlist? I saw they have a point system and assumed it was just like Pima’s, but I just double checked and that’s only for the CEP’s!

I think the program is competitive enough that applicants really should aim for A’s since the GPA portion is worth so much. Some of my friends that didn’t get in got B’s in one or both of their Bio classes and that’s 10-20 points lost right there. It’s nice though to have options like volunteering and work experience to beef up your application!

It's honestly pretty annoying. For example, one place has where if you meet the qualifications for a program your student ID and weighted score are entered into the "lottery." It sounds just like that, they draw names and if you get picked you get in. Even with perfect scores if you don't get drawn you don't make it ?

I really like the option for working and volunteering as well! At least working hours are easy to accumulate and they don't restrict points based on what job you have.

@krystina_lee3 Were these people also applying to the program? I haven't heard about GPA being taken into account for scoring. If anything, I can see them using GPA to determine placement along side date of submission if enough people have the same score. I'll ask Amanda about that too just in case! As long as you double checked through your application I'm sure you'll be fine. ? I didn't check with an advisor either other than for the math requirement (curse taking classes in Canada). Ended up scrambling to take the CLEP and now I'm hoping ASU takes the credits since I forgot to check with the CEP advisor to see if it would still count >.>

Yes, but you are probably correct on when GPA is applicable. Fingers crossed ASU takes your credits!

I'll definitely let you guys know what I hear back!

@nroyce Thanks for that info! Im glad the remaining waitlisters have been put through. Did you hear how many spots are CEP specific too?

I think like 20 maybe 10 I don’t remember exactly

Hello everyone, I’m new to this thread. Thanks for making it! I applied to the Pima ASU CEP program as well as the Pima ADN. My self calculated score is an 84. I’ve retaken the hesi three times to try and improve and have gotten A’s in both BIO’s. I’m starting to get super nervous about the applications because when I went to turn mine in, some woman in the nursing office said that they take other factors into consideration. Which I guess would mean GPA? I had to work super hard to get mine up to a 3.1 getting straight A’s the last two semesters. I would think it very unfair to take things like that into consideration when all they say is the point system... thanks

Oh I also have a question...

How does everyone plan on paying for the program? I have applied for financial aid/loans but if I get into the CEP, I’m not sure I will be given enough in loans to cover the cost. Does anyone know about this? Financial aid was not very helpful. Thanks.

I honestly don’t know about all that. Other considerations is very vague. I’m 99% they base it off the point system. If it was your overall GPA they would just put that on there. For example, they used to take points away for retaking bio 201, 202 and math now they don’t. Try not to over think and stick to the facts not hearsay. You can probably call to be sure!

Thank you. I really appreciate it. I’ll just do my best to not think about what they have said. My birthday is February 23rd so I really hope to find out that Friday before or Monday ? ??

Where do you work? Are you able to get any financial assistance from your employer?

Additionally, I would definitely apply for scholarships! I know ASU has some (I’m enrolled currently with them) and also on mypima you can fill out some info for scholarships too, it’s on the finance page!
