PHN as prep for FNP

I'm a current BSN student who's trying to figure out what I'd like to do after graduation. I want to get my FNP further down the line and go into primary care. In the meantime, my first choice would be to do public health, but I'm worried I'd have a hard time both getting into a FNP program and later finding a job after. Traditional bedside care doesn't interest me terribly much. Does anyone have any experience or feedback with this? Thanks!

A colleague of mine started their nursing career in public health straight out of nursing school and was accepted to an FNP program last year. Last I heard, my former colleague will be graduating the program in the spring. It can be done!

How was she able to do clinical ?

How was she able to do clinical ?

Were you asking me? My colleague did their clinical on weekends (our office is only open M-F) in the beginning, then dropped to part time to accommodate the clinical schedule as long as possible until they had to quit to do full time rotations near the end of school.

I'm an RN in my last semester of an RN-BSN program, and I've spent the last 10 years working in public health (with the last 1.5 years as an RN). I'm applying to AG Primary Care NP programs now. From what I have seen, some schools do not require clinical experience for FNP whereas others do. Personally, this has not affected me much since my top 4 schools do not require experience for AG primary care or for FNP. I would research the programs/schools you're interested in or planning to apply to and go from there.

It's nice to see other PHN with interest in FNP!
