Does anyone know if it's true that the new April 2007 NCLEX will now only have either the generic or brand name of the drugs NOT both like in the past??

OK I guess no one knows?!?! I looked on the NCSBN website but it didnt have any info

oh i dont know anything about that either..i checked the website and all they have is the new test plan effective April 2007..but i compared it with the April 2004 test plan..and nothing really changed...all i know is that the passing standard will increase a lil bit..like very very little..there's a thread here about it..

I would say that I sincerely hope not...I had a hard time learning the drugs as it is, and I didn't recognise quite a few of the ones they did ask me about. Thank God it's over and I passed. I have a friend that just graduated, and would just HATE to hear that...

Type in your browser Helen Feuer Nursing Review. They sell a wonderful CD set for about $70 (at least that is what I paid last year) on pharmacology. Make sure you get the workbook so that you can follow along with them. It helped me a great deal.

I just took the NCLEX-PN yesterday (4-17) and they had both the generic and brand name....Not that it made it any easier :) Hope this helps

I took the PN today. There were many meds with the generic and brand name, and most of those I seemed to recognize.

I also had many meds with only the generic name. I didn't recognize the names at all, and I had a hard time even figuring out what drug class they were in. It seems like I had about 15 meds I didn't know.

I had three alternate format questions. But there were so many obscure meds, no context in the question to give clues, no trade names -- I wonder if some of them were alternate questions?

Are you serious...only generic names??? What a horrible joke!! Mine had both, but that was last year. Like you, I did have a hard time figuring out the classification of the medications and some were free standing, with no indication of a disease or situation. Were ALL of your medication questions just generic names? I do think that they were the dummy questions...I strongly suspected that.

Thanks for the replies I hope those with just generic names were practice questions!! EEEEKKKK

Yup, some were only generic names and were free standing questions. I hope they were alternate questions.

The ones with the generic names as well as the trade names were meds that were more familiar to me.

But, now, 3 days after the test, I'm beginning to forget many of the details, and I'm letting it go. If I passed, great, but if I need to take it again, I'm sure I'll pass next time. :)
