People in my program don't care!

Published

So I'm doing a year of pre-health at a college and before entering I knew about their requirement to have an average of at least 80%, so going into this year I made myself very dedicated. But, most of the people in my program do not care about it at all! They skip class, don't do homework and most of our test class averages are in the 70%'s. I know I should just focus on myself and the less people who do well the more likely I'll get accepted next year. However, it gets very frustrating being in class with these people and hearing them talk about hating a class and skipping next period. I just honestly don't understand why they are in this program at all if they don't take it seriously, I know for sure that attitude would not fly in the nursing program next year!

Just keep doing you! Forget about them, they obviously aren't taking it serious. Quite frankly.....I wouldn't want those students to be a nurse one day and take care of me. Let them weed themselves out of the program. Good luck and keep doing what your doing.

I have a theory. This theory is that there are only 24 hours in a day. Every minute you let someone else's actions bother you is a minute lost, forever.

They aren't doing anything, you/B] are doing this to yourself, all this worry and frustration stealing minutes and hours of your life! Give those minutes and hours back as a little present to yourself, you have a great goal and a lot of drive to get there and you owe it to yourself to get there with style and grace and not frustrated.

Just keep focusing on you, and don't let their lack of care rub off on you! This is way programs have standards, rules, and pre-reqs you must complete before the program. It really helps weed out those who don't really care or take it seriously! Keep doing what you're doing. This is about you, not them. I get enjoyment out of those not trying, that's less competition for me. ;)

I've noticed a lot of these people in my pre-nursing classes. I actually get into nursing school and well... they aren't there anymore. Clearly they do not have what it takes.

My program is big on "assume good will."

You have no idea what these people's circumstances are. Focus on yourself and don't be so mindful of others.

Focus on yourself.

Not really sure why you are letting this become YOUR problem. Personally, I appreciate someone making me look better when they slack off. If they don't want it, fine by me!

Yeah I know all of you are right, I need to not focus on them. I guess I would just enjoy being in a class of all like minded people

I know what you're saying: I have classmates who don't study because "it takes up too much time" and then get snotty with me because I get 100s on every test. Many of them complain about not liking math, so they don't do the homework then complain when they can't even apply to the RN program (you have to pass Algebra-Trig and you only get 2 tries). Well guess what? I got into the RN program on my first try (to begin in January) and the people who complain all the time? Well, they didn't get in and a few of them spent 2 hours today in class (advanced A&P) saying the application is BS and stuff: well, I kept my mouth shut because I don't care about them, but if they whined less and worked more, they would have gotten in too and then they definitely wouldn't be calling it BS! I just am glad that I won't have any more classes with these particular people and feel that my RN program classmates will be a bit classier because we are the ones who did what we needed to do to get there...
