From what I've read so far, in order to do the PCT program you must be a CNA already. Don't quote me, but that's what I've read. Maybe someone out there is a PCT and doesn't have their CNA.

You can't be a PCA/PCT without first being a CNA.
I'm a PCA, which is same as/similar to a PCT (in some places, a PCA and PCT are the same thing, and in others, the "tech" part comes with a small pay increase and slightly more responsiblity than an "assistant"). The PCA half of my training underscores my CNA training by preparing me to work in an acute care setting.

The job listing will indicate whether or not a CNA certificate is required. I have seen this type of job advertised both ways, CNA required and also no certification required. Depends upon the employer and the position being offered.
Happy New Year! Thank you for all your responses, I appreciate the feedback!! Looking into a local CNA course now. : )

The place I work at in MN will hire PCA's that aren't CNA's. They always state that CNA is preferred, but if you don't have it, they will train you. I really don't understand why, and don't agree with it, but it is done in some places.
I could understand that for sure...that concerns me as well. Thanks everyone for your input!!!
