Pay in Springfield, MO

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

Hi, I recently passed my NCLEX and am thinking about moving to Springfield, MO. My husband got a job offer there and we have some family there. I currently live in the Pacific NW and although the pay here is amazing, the competition is fierce! There are many nursing schools in my area and hundreds of nursing students graduate every few months. So trying to find a job for a new grad is almost impossible. I was wondering if someone can share with me what the pay rate for new grads in Springfield is, as well as the shift differentials and benefits. And are the hospitals there hiring new grads with just their Associates degree. Also, I know that everyone has their own personal opinion but which hospital is better: Cox or Mercy? Thank you so much!!!

Pay is around $19/hr for new grads and I think both hospitals pay $1/hr differential for a BSN.

Both hospitals hire new grads with associates degrees, so that is a plus. I believe Mercy only hires twice a year, the pay is $18.35 with a $2-3 shift differential. Cox hires as they need it, so new grad positions may still be open. Cox also just gave a pay bump, at least that is what a close friend told me. They start new grads at $19.25, I believe the shift differential is about the same $2-3. It really depends on who you talk to about which hospital is better. I have heard it both ways. Job wise starting out it is a good place to live. I will warn you though Springfield is not like it use to be. There is a huge meth issue here and a lot of crime. So if you do decide to move here research what area of town you want to live in and be cautious when out downtown at night. Not trying to scare you away from the area, there are a lot of really awesome people here.
