  1. Both hospitals hire new grads with associates degrees, so that is a plus. I believe Mercy only hires twice a year, the pay is $18.35 with a $2-3 shift differential. Cox hires as they need it, so new grad positions may still be open. Cox also just gave a pay bump, at least that is what a close friend told me. They start new grads at $19.25, I believe the shift differential is about the same $2-3. It really depends on who you talk to about which hospital is better. I have heard it both ways. Job wise starting out it is a good place to live. I will warn you though Springfield is not like it use to be. There is a huge meth issue here and a lot of crime. So if you do decide to move here research what area of town you want to live in and be cautious when out downtown at night. Not trying to scare you away from the area, there are a lot of really awesome people here.
