Just curious, I am interested in hospice nursing. I have heard people say they take a pay cut in working for hospice. wondering what the going rate of pay is for hospice nurses.

For a hospice nurse with several years of experience in NC...non-profit starting pay about 22/hr. For-profit starting pay about 25 or 26/hr
...that was for RN salary. I have no idea what LPN's make.

I am a per diem Hospice RN working for a non profit VNA in NJ and we make $42 per visit...which can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 3+hours!!!! However, if we do have an extended visit over 2 hours we get extra and I have never taken the time to figure out how much that is!!!!
Do all of your nurses work per diem? The thing I don't like about per diem work is that it encourages nurses to make their visits as short as possible.

Just started at a non profit Hospice and starting pay with 2 years experience was $19.95 with a .60 raise in 90 days (benefits are decent though along with a Christmas bonus check).

I am salaried and get milage. Starting at our hopsice for RN is 40K. plus milage(.40/mile) , and $50 fer admit. We also get referal bonus of $25 per pt we refer and admit. It's pretty good for our area in Alabama. I know we make a good deal more than other local hopice agencies. Plus I have a AWESOME company. :)

You get $50 over and above your salaried rate for doing admissions? Is that for admissions during regular hours? Do you participate in on call work?
I am actually the only per diem RN on my hospice team and I never rush a visit unless there is some type of emergency...we usually see 4 pts a day and the great part is that once I am finished my visits I can just go home...and make the zillions of calls to the docs, DME company etc!!!!!!!!!! Oh well it just feels good to be home!!!!!
