PATHOPHYSIOLOGY?!!!

For the program I start this fall, we have the option of taking pathophysiology before or during our first semester of the program. I chose to take it before so I wouldn't have another class piled on top of what I'm sure will be a busy schedule. I took the class online and would say that it is not the hardest class I have taken but it definitely required a lot of reading/studying/etc time. I found the material to be very interesting so spending quite a bit of time on the coursework did not bother me. Good luck in whichever route you decide!!

At my school Patho is a class you take during the actual nursing program BUT if you take it before you apply to the program you get extra points towards being picked for the program so I took Patho as a pre-req.

It is somewhat of a difficult class and I would suggest taking it before nursing school so you are not overwhelmed with the coursework along with nursing classes. Just make sure you take good notes and keep your textbook because you will most definitely will have to use the information you learn in that class during nursing school.

In my BSN program, we take Pathophysiology during our first semester of actual nursing classes (5 semesters of nursing classes total) I found Patho to be very interesting. Honestly, I thought it was pretty easy. I studied about 8-10 hrs for each test and made an A for the semester. Good luck!

I will be starting a BSN program in the Fall and Pathophysiology is one of the classes I need to take. I would have taken it beforehand to get it out of the way if I had the choice but my school only accepts upper division pathophysiology so I couldn't take at the community college. I have heard that it is a tough class but having a solid understanding of Anatomy and Physiology is helpful. Get it out of the way if you already have taken A&P I and II if not then maybe you should take it later on.

Thank you for the advice! I actually did really well in A&P! In fact it was my favorite course : ) I'm thinking it would be best for me to take patho this fall to get it out of the way!

If I had the option of taking a pathophysiology class before I started my nursing program I definitely would have taken it. It's NOT an easy subject but to be able to study disease processes in the body and understand them to at least a simple extend would definitely be a leg up in my book. Good luck!

I start an ABSN-MSN program in the Fall and have to take 4 semesters of Pathophysiology (and 4 semesters of Pharmacology, as a matter of fact). I'm hoping that means it will give me a lot of time to digest the information, but I may be wrong about that, lol. Good luck when you take the class in the Fall!

Hi Shorty, I noticed you said your in TX. What program are you attending?

I am in the same boat as you and I decided to take Pathophysiology this semester to get it out of the way with a few lighter classes. From what I hear it is a class that you need to study your butt off for. It is a lot of information in very little time. I expect to be studying for that class a minimum of 3 hours a day. I think it is going to be a lot of fun though. This class is right up ally. Good luck to ya.
