I am trying to decide whether or not to take patho as an online course this fall. It is not offered in the classroom at my CC.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hi there.
In my second semester I took Pathophys online.
I love the online option (I have a long commute).
Have you taken an online class?
If so, how did you do?

I took Patho online because I am only interested in 1 specific program and my program waives the lab component, also I was improving a very old grade. I liked taking it online and it was easy for me because this was technically my 3rd time taking it -- took human phys in college for my BS then took animal a+p for my Vet Tech license so this last round was a breeze... HOWEVER I would be absolutely sure that any programs you are applying to do not require a lab component, as I doubt an online course would provide one... just a suggestion. :) Also, as Jenniferasch suggested you might want to consider your experiences so far taking online courses; if you haven't taken any online classes, they are not necessarily easier than in-person courses, but they worked fine for me as I am fairly self-disciplined. Good luck with your decision!

I took patho online and as I had a lot of previous experience with independent study I did very well, I got an overall 92. I moved and had to transfer where they would not accept any nsg courses and I am currently in a classroom patho and I am dying of boredom. I still have to study material to pass but its killing me to sit through lecture when I could be studying more effectively on my own time.
If youre a good independent learner then go
*continuation I slipped on my phone*
Then go for online. If you are confident in your a&p and medterm then go online. I love anything online.
I have had some online courses and loved it. I am self motivated, I just wondered if the content would be harder to learn online rather than in person.
Thanks for all the comments!!

I took patho online. (Our exams were proctored and on campus though). I made an easy A. Our only grades were 4 exams plus a final. I finished the semester with an A+. The key to online classes (in my experience) is never allowing yourself to fall behind. Since all of our test dates (and chapters each test was over) were available from day one of the class, I made a schedule of when to read what chapters in order to not be overwhelmed last minute. You have to force yourself to keep up since you aren't having scheduled lectures. Some of our tests where over 10+ chapters, so in order to do well it was imperative to stay ahead with reading. Also, it is important to keep in mind that you cannot simply memorize the material. Our tests were application bases and questions centered around case studies and patient scenarios. Critical thinking skills needed! I have always done very well in sciences (I have a BS in BIo and I am currently working on my BSN). If you are strong in your sciences, organized, and dedicated, you should do fine.

I am taking patho online currently over the summer. I have taken numerous online courses now, even though this is my first online science course. I agree with the previous post that it is not enough to memorize the material. My tests are patient situations that you have to understand multiple disease processes to select the most appropriate answer. I think some of the content would be easier to learn in class, such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances, but I ordered an extra book just on that subject to help. There are great videos on You Tube, and I think if you are willing to put in the time that you can succeed in this class. Good luck!!!
