This is my question. I just found out that in order to graduate in May our school will give us only one try to pass the hesi with a 850 or better. They give three tries total but if not passed the first time around we must wait til Aug. to graduate. I took the first year hesi and got a 810 . I am very scared that when April comes I will not get the 850. Right now my plan is to do nclex review questions each night. Then in December I will order the hesi study materials and may take some kind of hesi review course. Does anyone have any pointers on passing the hesi exit exam on the first try? I feel more stressed about having to take this hesi than I do about the nclex for some reason. I guess b/c I may never get to see the nclex if I don't pass hesi first.

i found the MOSBY review series very helpful for my HESI exam, along with a good Nclex book. Last year for my Dec. interim I started studying in August, carrying one of the books with me at all times so I could read if stuck in a traffic jam/waiting in the Dr. office etc. My friends thought I was a freak : ) but when everyone was stressing about the HESI I felt pretty prepared, and when they were scraping by I was enjoying my 1136 on the test : P

I have the HESI NCLEX-RN Review Manual and just failed my 2nd HESI exit exam. I read the book cover to cover and have a lower score (824) on this one that my first (924)! Could you let me know how you split all the information in your review book and kept it straight and in your head for the test? I have the Saunders NCLEX-RN Review book and wonder if there is a difference on how you perform on the exit exam if you use one over the other?
Do you have any pointers on how to study? I have to retake the exam (again!) on February 17th and I really want to blow this test out of the water. I want to get an 1100+ too! We need a 950 to receive our final grade and until we pass - we have an "Incomplete" on our transcripts.

Since the HESI is used to assess your overall nursing knowledge, as well as your readiness for NCLEX you may be wise to use the same approach/program used by those studying for the NCLEX. I would suggest you visit the NCLEX forum and review the postings, particularly the tips from Suzzane4, the forum moderator.
The NCLEX study plan she developed is based on the Saunder's Comprehensive NCLEX-RN textbook and CD. Taking this approach should place you in a strong position to pass both the HESI and the NCLEX.

I know how you feel! Ours was just changed :angryfire now we get 2 tries & must score a 950 in order to graduate. Our exit Hesi is the 1st part of April & our Hesi review course (3 day event) is in the last part of April Now does that make a lot of sense or what????? Geezh this kind of stuff really gets me riled up.

I have been advised by the group of students at my school that graduated in December to use both the HESI and the Saunders NCLEX review book to prep for HESI.

How did you all end up doing? This test scares me to death. What did you find worked best for you?
