In the past 2 days I have been reamed for not calling a parent about their child's very minor complaints, and I have been accused of rigging a contest by another parent. I drew names from all the participants and one of the winners happened to be a teacher's child. I hear the parent say "That's a teacher's kid, he should not be eligible. This contest is RIGGED!" The HUGE prize that caused all the commotion? A stinking water bottle, not unlike any you can find at the dollar store. Seriously? I am going to rig a contest for a WATER BOTTLE??? Really?

Sigh.

And then there is the parent whose kids are both falling asleep in class to the point that you can be having a conversation with them and they start to nod off. When asked why they are so sleepy, the youngest kid told teacher "I was up all night gambling with mom". Apparently their family game night consists of poker for money, and lasts until the wee hours. Mom will never answer phone or respond to requests to come for teacher/parent meetings.

If it was not Friday I am afraid I would not make it!

Don't feel bad. Last week I was accused of making a sick child clean up their own vomit! The true story was the kid spit water on the floor and I tod them that they needed to wipe it up.

Well, even after it was explained by me and my AP, the parent called the local radio station and says on the air that I made their sick child clean up vomit!! Small town, news travels fast!

Next day people were calling in to "clear up the rumor" in my defense. Thankfully!!

Ha! My principal DID make a sick kid clean up their own vomit once...parent was not happy about it, nor was I.

Oh yes, any intentional or careless messes in my office are cleaned by the perpetrator! I did not consider vomit to be intentional or careless, especially in this case where the kid was rushing to try and get to the trash can and could not make it in time :(

The best part of dealing with parents! June, July, and August.......... and those months are rapidly approaching! Hang in there comrades, hang in there!

I think what bothers me most is that I love my students and really try to advocate for them! i have gotten cussed out because I was trying to help a student who could barely see get glasses, mom said kid was a ******* liar and

I was a stupid *****. I was trying to give her a vision voucher. How dare I pay $140 out of my pocket every year so that I can help give my students a completely free voucher. When my NASN dues came up in the fall, we were having a tough time but I found a way to pay so I could help my students. No good deed goes unpunished......

Calling a radio station, come on!!!! Usually the parents that raise that kind of stink are the same ones that have no working phone numbers and send their kids to school with a 102 temp!
