Hi,

Anyone headed to Palm Springs this winter? I'll be driving down the beginning of November. I am trying to find housing now and am coming up pretty short. I have found that most of the ads I look at are either single 50+ year old men looking for women, or ads asking for gay males for roommates. Since I'm not keen on the first, and I don't fit criteria for the second, I'm running out of options!

Has anyone been there and know how the drive is from DHS or Indio?

I might just end up taking the provided housing, but I know I'm going to miss the extra money, and I wanted to use it to travel! :(

If you proactively post a housing wanted ad on Craigslist, you will have access to a lot of housing that never gets advertised. As a nurse traveler, you are highly desirable, if for little else than ability to pay. You are also still highly desirable to the perves, so screen accordingly. I've never gotten such a reply, but as a guy, I'm perhaps less prone. I have lived with gay couples before from Craigslist without a problem. Sexual orientation does not necessarily mean trouble and it is usually obvious no matter what orientation when it is going to be a problem.

I worked in Palm Springs last year and I had the same problem with housing. Thankfully, my assignment was only 4 weeks so I just stayed at a hotel. As the above posted stated, post your own ad on Craig's List. I posted my own ad (as recommended at the Travel Nurse Conference) and I got BETTER results. I've also met travelers who used http://www.airbnb.com to find temporary housing.

I've posted my ad on Craigslist, and still I come up with the same thing. I wouldn't have a problem living with a gay couple or gay man, but most of the ads say "gay/bi man preferred", which is my problem as I am a straight woman ha.

Gay men are female friendly. I'd try replying to a couple of those. Women may actually be a better fit for them if they think it through.

Are you still looking for housing? I'll be heading to Palm Springs Desert Regional Medical Center for an assignment starting mid-November. I just started looking for housing, but seem to be coming across the same issues.

I found a place but the person who is be renting from seems flaky.
Specializes in ICU, step down, dialysis.

MODERATOR NOTE: Several posts have been edited/removed for solicitation (ie. roommates), which is not allowed per our Terms of Service. Thanks. :)

^^^Yup that was me. Oops. But I'd imagine you know what I said ha.

I ended up finding a small studio really close to the hospital. I haven't been able to Skype or see anything else besides pics, so the guy is being really cool and saying I can check it out for the first month and he can always fill it if I don't like it or find something else. It's a little more than what I'd like to be paying, but it looks nice and everything's included. Ehh...

Def try putting up an ad yourself instead of just looking at the ones posted. My guy didn't have an ad up but saw my post and liked what he saw because he knows travel nurses are respectful and responsible. Make sure to put "travel nurse" in your headline too!

Don't suppose you'd be willing to share with me what you said in your ad? I'm about to make one for myself and don't quite know what to say.

"Travel nurse needs housing. Travel nurse with a confirmed 3 month assignment at Broward for three months starting Nov 3 with the possibility of extending another three months. Looking for furnished apt/studio or good house share situation. Night shift worker, day sleeper, quiet clean responsible non-smoker, no pets or parties. Would like within three miles of hospital since I like to bicycle to work. Please email, Jack."

Or whatever BS fits you. Just say what you want and what you are about personally. I can promise you that you will get emails.

Awesome. Thanks for helping me out!
