Oxygen questions

Had a pt in ltc with an order for O2 at 8lpm with and oximizer.

What is an oximizer? Any experiences with them ? (they looked like a clear disc that was attached to the tubing) This pt was also hooked up to a concentrator..not a tank.

How about this...same pt. no oximizer attached, but was using 2 concentrators each at 4lpm and they were hooked together? Can this be done?

I've never seen either in my 10 or so years, so I was wondering. Of course there is no inhouse Resp.

"Oximizer Pendant Disposable Oxygen-Conserving Device (Code #P-201). It has a little bladder-like thing under your chin that acts as a reservoir so it actually allows you to absorb more of the oxygen your system is constantly pushing out on each breath you take. It improves your saturation level about 3-5 percentage points, which is a lot when things get tough".

This blog entry is what I found in a hasty google search (after trying several entries that were no longer available!). Maybe I'll have time to do a more in depth search later--gotta go.
