Hi all, I am new to the forums and had just a quick question for those applying to or attending BSN programs in the US. I am looking to apply to an accelerated BSN program for second degree students but I am not really interested in attending any programs here in my home state of Californai. I read on a different thread that Maryland state does not charge out of state tuition at their state schools due to the nursing shortage and was wondering if anyone knew about any other states doing this or how I might find more information on this topic. Thank you for your time and I truly look forward to hearing from anyone.

I think you need to do your homework and check the schools' websites for more info. I have not heard of that sort of thing at other schools and am amazed if that's really true for Maryland state. Which school in MD is this? U. of Maryland has out of state tuition rates for students which are higher. There's no list that I know of.

Hi! I attended the 14-month accelerated BSN program at SHU in NJ and there was no out of state tuition fee :)
Wow, that's great to hear about SHU, any additional info on your program would be greatly appreciated. So how much did the program end up costing you in the end? Did you have to take out a lot of loans or are you participating in any loan/payback programs? Any Pro Con list about your school would be great, what did you think of the school/clinicals/area? Are you from around there, I'm from Southern California and am wondering what NJ is like (though my family is from NY so I am somewhat familiar with back east, but not jersey). Thanks again for replying:)

My first post here at allnurses....
University of Cincinnati has an accellerated program bu they do charge out of state tuition. However they offer a lot of students scholarship money and I am told it is all based on how well you score on the GRE. Last year they gave out almost 1 million in scholarships for the nursing school alone.
Edited to say that once you have all your prereqs done the program itself is from June to August of the following year so it's really short. The downside is that UC doesn't give scholarships for summer quarter so you'd have to pay that first quarter and that last half quarter that both fall in the summer in full or with loans.
I really should post an intro... maybe later.

It's probably 1.5 to 2 years for the pre-reqs depending if you go full time or part time. If you are an international student, I'm not sure how much of a student loan you would get. You can go to: http://www.fafsa.org for answers to your financial aid questions. They will ask for information for your savings, assets, current liabilities, etc. Do you have a job? Are you here on a green card? Visa?
If you don't have any assets, they will probably ask about your parents (assuming you are a dependent). Since I don't know where you came from and your individual background, it's very hard to say. You really need talk to an admissions counselor at a school in the US. Good luck!

Private Universities do not charge out of state tuition. The tuition is higher at private universities BUT they have more available aid...i'd atleast check into one...i went to one and ended up paying less than i did at state school (both for undergrad, started out with a private school for my BA hated it and trans. to a state school to finish, i graduated and am now getting my nursing degree at a diff private univ)
