Out of State Nursing Program

Published

I have no idea if this is the right category but here it goes.

I am from NJ, and I am looking to transfer to my first choice college I wanted to attend all along which is URI (University of Rhode Island). It has a great Nursing program and I wanted to go there after HS but I didn't get accepted because I was *that* student in HS. Anyway, I got accepted into URI and I really want to attend there, but I just realized... when/if I finish the Nursing Program there... I live in NJ, would I not get a Rhode Island License? Or do I come back to NJ to take my NCLEX and get my license here? Any knowledge in this would be appreciated, because I just realized this.

Thanks in advance!

The NCLEX is a national exam so you take it wherever you want. So if you plan on working in NJ, you can take your NCLEX there after you graduate. Hope that helps!

I got my BSN in Virginia. I am licensed in Nebraska.

Start looking up whether you can apply for licensure in NJ or if you will have to do a licensure by endorsement. You can take NCLEX anywhere. It's through Pearson Vue testing centers. I finished my paramedic in another state and took the equivalent to NCLEX for paramedic licensure in my state.

ohhhh I thought it was like the same exam, but after you passed it you earn a license in that state. Thanks you guys!

You can apply in any state for license by examination If you intend to live & work in NJ you would apply directly to NJ for license bye examination. The application contains information as how your school verifies graduation & requirements/courses. & clinicals completed

You can take the NCLEX in any authorized Pearson testing center. The results will be forwarded to your BoN.
