Ok, guys and gals....quick question:
Is it a requirement by OSHA that the front office staff be trained in the pathophysiology of fever/illness if they are taking student temperatures?
Why do I ask?
OSHA visited one of our schools (the nurse was out providing nursing care to another school so she was not there) and asked who was taking temps. The front office said they take temps and the lady from OSHA asked if they were trained in the patho of fever/illness?
Any experience or opinions? I tried looking it up on their website but could not find any information.
Thanks!

Weird, they can't do anything with the info except report it, correct? or send the kiddo home? They are not doing a nursing assessment.

I would say no.
Correct. Just take temp and if needed they call the parent. No nursing duties involved. Normally our nurses are at school but here lately we have had many to call out.
Thanks!!
Thanks, OldDude! That was my first initial reaction but I really did not know and can not find any information stating otherwise.

Never heard of any such thing. let us all know if you learn more!
Thanks! Yes, I will let you all know what I find out. I'm sure they will make their way to my school and I hope they ask my front office staff the same question. It will give me the opportunity to ask about their reasons behind the question and to show me where in their safety standards it refers to this type of situation. I'm thinking it was just a person that let their "Authority" status go to their heads and since the nurse wasn't there they started asking questions that had nothing to do with their inspection.
The blood pressure machine at WalMart is relied on to identify abnormalities but it doesn't understand why
Bwahaha! Oh, so true!! I needed a good laugh today.
Just updating to let you guys know that we still have not had OSHA show up at our school yet. They have been around to several in our city district but not ours. Still waiting. :-)
