Published

well first i would like to say hey to evry1. im new to this and nursing school and im already having my first dilema. i have a report due on the history and origin of the nursing cap pin and lamp but cant seem to find the info im looking for. so if any1 on here could tell a good website and i would REALLY apperciate it and would like to say thanks in advance

In google search bar type in

"Where did the nursing cap and pin come from"

"Where did the nursing lamp come from"

When all else fails, find an enclyopedia, orrrr a nursing textbook (available at your college library im sure)

Play around with the keywords and you can find almost anything on google. Or if youre really desperate try wikipedia, just be careful because theyre not 100% reliable.

the symbol of the lamp comes from references to florence nightingale. she is known in history as the "lady with the lamp" and the lamp became the symbol of a nurse. this dates back to english nursing from the late 1800s.

pinning is a little harder to identify as to exactly when it started. every school had it's own. the school i attended had its own distinct caps , uniforms and pins. we didn't get our pins until we graduated.
