Hello,
I am pretty sure I posted something on this sometime last year, however I cannot seem to find it.
Does your school have a manual or program for your new school nurse hires? If so, I would love to see the content. I am putting together a program specific to our district for new hires. Our nurses all have "substitute binders" with all the information about the specifics of the school, students to look out for, etc. And Massachusetts has a mandatory program for all school nurses to attend as part of their licensing, but nothing is in place for them when they arrive on their first day on the job. I would love to hear ideas and if you have something in place I would love to see it. Thanks everyone!
Edited to add that I have found some online manuals, but would like to hear from you what is helpful to know as you begin, specifically ?

Basically my bulletin board is also set up as a guide - some of what is has:
Immunization requirements, tables on eye disorders/conjunctivitis info, the Ottawa ankle rules (which aren't pedi really, but I still find very, very help for the 13+ population), DCF phone number list, chart of normal level BPs for children and adolescents, photos for reference for ear exams, our seizure action, our allergy action plan, and school specific info (contact phone numbers, etc).
If I left this job, I'd put these all into a binder as well (my sub binder has a 1 page "welcome to school nursing, here's how the office is set up and some school nursing basics and tips"). But I've also done on the job training for every single nurse in my district as the senior nurse, usually during new staff orientation (which is for two weeks prior to returning staff arriving). I do this and also send them to the MA mandatory program.
