Is there anyone out there that is currently in, or has graduated from the MSN-FNP program at Walden University? I'm also thinking about Old Dominion University's program as well. Was just wondering what your thoughts are on these schools or if you have any suggestions and/or experiences to share about where the "best place" is to pursue FNP? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I am in the process of applying for the FNP program and Walden is on my list to apply. However for the RN-MSN program. My 1st choice is University South because they have 2 campuses near me and I feel that will increase my chances of finding a preceptors since this seems to be an issue with these programs....

I am looking at their program, I am a bit confused, as it sounds like it is open enrollment?
I'm a bit nervous about finding a preceptor in my area as well. I'm still researching schools and trying to figure out what I'm going to do. My goal is to become a NNP (Neonatal NP). I was told I could complete FNP and train in a neonatal setting before sitting for boards. Not sure if that's true or not.

I'm not positive about this, but I think you would have to do NNP to train in a neonatal setting. FNP does touch base on peds-adults, but the NICU is so specialized and even so much different from regular peds(as you know). You can become an FNP and add an NNP certificate, but I don't *think* becoming just an FNP would allow you to do NICU right off the bat. If you ultimately only want NICU,
I would just do NNP and save time and money! Adding a separate cert still adds on lots of credit hours and about a year or so, from what I've been seeing in my own research!
I agree with what you say, and am researching online NNP programs as well. Thanks for your input.
I'm not sure about open enrollment but it seems that South brings students in for programs on a monthly basis. I ended up applying at Walden and not South. I also changed from FNP to AGNP. Lol
