There's no reason this can't work. Be sure to express any concerns you have constructively and at an appropriate time.

Good luck to you.

I've worked for hospitals that routinely had more than one orientee with a preceptor. It can work if the system is set up appropriately to accommodate their needs.

That is happening a lot where I am too and personally I think that it sucks. No one else I went to school with has this happpening, I didn't ever even think to ask because where I had clinical and worked as an aide it was always 1:1. Some of the preceptors are handling it fine, but others are overwhelmed.

I just started my 6th week of orientation. I did the first 4 weeks on days, and had a preceptor to myself. On nights, another new grad and I share one. I personally am LOVING having the other new grad there. We are both still getting the experiences we need, but also have a little bit of support from someone who completely understands. It also helps that my preceptor is really good...

I really just think it woiuld depend on the preceptor and other orientee as to how well it would work out, but it is working out GREAT for me! And just think...if you have a good preceptor, maybe it is better to share than to be stuck with one you don't like?

It's your orientation. I'd make the best of it...if it wont work for you then say so. Stand up for yourself...after all if you have a bad experience it will leave you feeling less than happy about nursing. Just make the best of it.

I too, experienced this. For the most part it is working out well, but the other new grad and I are at different places and learn at a different pace. It is good to have another new person there to hear my concerns from another person. I do feel however that my preceptor is torn as to who gets her attention at what time. I will say make sure you are assertive and get a comfortable understanding of your position before you let them cut you loose.:uhoh21:
